88 xtra cab 96 3.4 swap

Well I has begun, picked up and 88 xtra cab 3.0 with no motor for $400 bucks. sourced a 96 m/t 3.4 out of 4runner with harness evap and a few other things, only thing I'm missing so far is mass air and ecm. First thing to this weekend is wiring harness and compression test also order gaskets and seals, timming belt and water pump. I think I have read all the 3.4 swap threads.. only question so far is how many are running the rear 02 vs bypassing it ? will get some pics of the mess tomorrow.

I am bypassesing it and only code I have is for the heater circuit. I put in a 15ohm resistor and you need a 12.

If ypu search on here youll find out how others have done it.

Question is has anyone ran the 3.0 clutch and pressure plate on the 3.4 fly wheel ? I do not have a 3.0 flywheel..

I could be wrong here, but I was under the impression that the 3.4 clutch and flywheel is larger than that of the 3.0, so it may not work and I haven't heard of anyone trying to mix and match pieces.

Don't mix match clutch parts. Your 3.4 already has a flywheel correct? Get it resurfaced and buy a clutch kit for a 3.4. But you have to use a throw out bearing for a 3.0

Alright, found clutch fork and power steering lines. Also swapped pan and pickup, apon installation of the motor I had to grind off the little "pins" on the motor mounts to work with ones on the block. Got one mount bolted in and the left side does not line up seems to need to go down 3\8" and forward the same Anyone else see this ? Hoping the frame is not bent or something..

If your talking about the rubber mount you could try lining it up with a screwdriver, pry bar etc.

Yes the rubber mount, I have indeed tried a line up bar , screwdriver and pry bar. Also have swapped mounts side for side. Just doesn't wanna go where I need it, guess I need to get a photo bucket account and post a pic.

I didn't see where you mentioned it, you are using 3.0 motor mounts correct?

OK, finally sat back and looked at everything and noticed the lower rear portion of of the left hand mount on the frame was bent up. Causing the motor mount to hang up, guess working on it after work in the dark doesn't help much... Trying to mock up the exhaust tomorrow.

Man, after going through the EDW I think I have everything. One question I didn't end up using any wires from connector II1 just from II3 , also E8 , and the two body plugs from the truck. Just to clarify donor is 96 runner M/T

Right.

The only wire I used from II1 was the R-Y wire at pin 9 for the ABS ECU "TS" signal (but I moved it to an unused spot on II3), since I kept the ABS setup on my 4Runner. My donor was a 96/97 4Runner 4x4 A/T (same pin outs) that I converted the engine harness to M/T as part of the swap.
