another question... seems like everyone on yotatech is putting upgraded exhausts on these swaps... I just want to put a cost effective basic emissions passing exhaust on this thing... cant wake the new baby in a few months with a roaring monster... maybe a mini Trex roar...

when searching the internet, do I base my search on a 95 4runner due to the alignment underneath and use the 3.4 engine 208CID to judge my pipe size (2.25")? I found 2.25" as best from some other threads... im also going with the ORS crossover...

thanks for the o2 sensor info mt goat... ive been following your swap thread also...

I can not say for sure about the exhaust, but I can tell you what I am going to attempt.

I plan to get the ORS custom cross-over and have an exhaust shop chop up and reassemble the stock exhaust system from the '99 4Runner. I am hoping that this will be the most cost effective way for me to go. I have no need for an upgraded exhaust system at this time, as I am not going to supercharge this motor. Well at least not in the near future.

The stock exhaust should be sufficient for what I need to do with the truck. Perhaps you could source a stock 3.4L exhaust too, and try this method.

Is there still a P/N on your wiring harness?

the ORS crossover is 2.5 inch. and there is only about 5 feet or so of exhaust pipe that they can use from the stock system. your only real savings are going to be in not having to buy a cat and muffler

i just did this with mine and my exhaust minus the crossover cost me just over $400. but thats with new cat and muffler and 2.5 inch pipe all the way out. Cat was from Summit Racing its There branded 2.5 inch cat. and Magnaflow muffler. tell you what it sounds nice i like it. quite in the cab. but rumbles from behind.

found the reason for my troubles with alternators. they changed alternators and mounts in 92 i believe.

Wow, back from the dead ... this thread I mean ...

I see that the request for an update was from like, over a year ago - shame on me!

I'm embarrased to say that I haven't touched this project since I last posted up about it. School and work have just been too much for me. I plan to try and make some time to get this thing done sometime after December 15th or so. I figure by then I should be finished with this semester. I would like to have the truck up and running by the end of January '08 at the latest.

As far as any progress goes, 'bout the only thing I have done that is related to the swap, are two things; I purchased an engine hoist, and I acquired a parts washer.

Hopefully I'll have good things to post on this thing soon!

A couple things from my 3.4 swap:

-you'll probably need to use your 3.0 alternator wiring harness...the 3.4 harness that came with my engine did nothing...had to splice on the 3.4 alternator to the 3.0 body harness
-had a custom crossover built...about $200 at the exhaust shop...if you're going to have one built, make sure the stay very tight to the back of the block and follow closely to the bellhousing
-according to the shop that did my exhaust, 2.25" is good enough...they felt that 2.5" would make a negligible difference
-I used the baffle that was on the bottom of the engine, but had to cut one of the legs off the 3.0 oil pickup tube to make it fit

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions I might be able to help you with.

I have been looking into my ECM needs. Here is a thread I started all about the ECM. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f160...x4-4x4-134860/

Perhaps someone looking at this thread will need that information too.
