Help am I in trouble with the dip stick

Borrowed the ORS drill guide and apparently its off by quite a bit.... Just kissed the surface with a 3/8 bit and pulled it off to see exactly where it hit... It was way off center so I free handed the rest of it... Just finished running a 9mm through so i only have one more step to 3/8. What concerns me is that the hole is to the back of the casting, has anyone accidentally punctured the oil galley right behind the dipstick? I dont know the thickness that is their to begin with let alone how close I am...

I only have .02 left so it should only be another .01 on any given side, should I weld the hole shut and leave it or finish it off???? Pics below...

Any input is greatly appreciated...

Ummmm, I'm not sure if you are going to have an issue now but I can tell you that the ORS guide is correct. Mine wasn't in the centre either but the angle is correct.

IIRC there were instructions with the dipstick guide to place washers in between the block and guide before you bolt it on, on certain bolts or maybe all of them.

If you just bolted it on then it would sit to close to the block.

Working from memory here though so I may be off a bit.

Ya that is correct. Might be where you #@!$ed up. As for a solution I'm not sure what you can do about it now. Sorry.

Yeah I placed washers behind it, followed the instructions, and it wound up where it is... Do you think I am going to be in trouble or should I just punch it out and see?

Not sure what to do, should I just plug that hole, and either not have a dipstick or should I trim the front one to kinda work....

I am scared to waste a perfectly good block on a motor that only has 20K...

it shouldn't matter as long as the hole is angled down correctly. the union should fit into the hole fine.. take a look at your other block.. you see.

also you can always fill the hole up with jb-weld if you need to fix it.

Well you are committed now. Just drill it out and hope for the best. Use a "U" size drill bit though and not a 3/8". It makes a difference.

Finished opening up the hole and it didn't go through so every thing seems ok...

Used a 1/4 npt tap and a pipe plug wrapped in teflon, then put two drops of loctite on the top...

If my eyes are right that looks like the stock 3.4 oil switch. You are going to want to change to the oil sender from your 3.0 for your gauge to work.

Actually Its going in an FJ40, it will get the 2f's oil pressure sender which ironically is the same thread pattern...

However I am still prepping for the swap, will start it in late April early May...
