3.4L swap Auto ECT question

Is there any wiring that has to be done or is it just plug and go since I'm using the 3.4 auto tranny. I read somewhere that I have to use the 3.0 ECT button, but why?

That might have been me, I used the 3.0 ECT button. But I don't remember saying you had to use it. In my case if fit perfectly in the console. https://www.yotatech.com/1001175-post195.html

I guess it depends on what console you want to use. Are you going to use the 3.4 console?

mt-goat: I am probably going to use the 3.4 console. So what you saying is if I use the 3.4 console it should be a plug and go kind of a deal? and you spliced in the 3.0 only cause you wanted to use the 3.0 button? Thanks by the way for all the help you've given me by putting up a well documented thread.

I'm not sure how to do it that way since I didn't use it.

Good luck

I am doing my 3.4 engine swap into a 93 reg cab manual, I'm curious, how much difference is there between the transmissions? I am planning on putting 2 ct26 turbos and i want to make sure the transmission can handle the power. any thoughts? also, any other suggestions for swaps that could help or would be necessary? oh, and would the fuel pump be a necessary swap?

Thanks. I also ran into a new issue. I found a complete set of donor parts for 700$ but I have a manual and the donor is an auto. I would like to know if there's anything i need to do besides flash the computer.

flashing the computer to change it from an auto to a manual transmission. Called the dealer today and it turns out they can't do that. ECU is '97. I found that the tranny for the manual 97 runners are the same as my 93 pickup, but that they have 3 different computer models in 97 for the manual trans. My hope was to avoid buying a new computer.

I just bought an engine from an a/t 4 runner from 97, I'm trying to find a manual ecu for it from the same manufacture date range, because the dealer says that I should, but is it mandatory or are they just being a dealer? Also, do I have to get the manual wiring harness to go with it or would it just eliminate a lot of unnecessary wires?? So much I don't know... yet

viking. There are a lot of write ups in the 3.4 swap section that talk about transmissions and ecu's. You need an engine harness that will match the ecu. Also you need more than just an engine to get the swap done right.

lol. i have been reading. and i got the engine, mass airflow sensor, original ecu, wire harness, alternator, starter, crossover, headers, power steering pump, cruise control, coil packs, ac compressor etc.. I have been to ors and 4x4wire and they are both very informative and been calling the dealers and other people who have done the swap. I just need to figure out what i can and cant do with what i have so i dont go buying unnecessary parts. Everyone of course tells you to buy kits and to get all the parts off a single donor with the same tranny, but i dont have 1500 extra dollars for the kit. I found some writeups that talk about ecu and wiring harness but none that talk about compatibility between them. sorry if i'm being naive, but i'm trying to learn as much and as quickly as possible.

I'm not honestly sure about either. is the evap canister a metal cylinder about 5" across and about 9" deep with what looks like a vaccuum line running in? as for the battery/alt harness I believe that is still attached to the alternator if it's what i think it is.

Thanks, I've been combing google for a while now trying to find images. the answer is no. I was afraid of that. I'm pretty sure i got the vsv valve, but this canister wasnt included. does this need to be the same year as the engine, because i'm pretty sure i can get my hands on one from a 98.
