Go for it.
All are interested, and it is nice to see different ways how it is down.

Wow! $400 for the entire motor - that's a steal.

Good luck.

Yeah, we can't have too many swap write-ups going.
Everybody does something differently and comes up with new ways of doing things.

Wrench on!

well today i started switching everything over off the old motor, like oil pan sump, motor mounts, fan, oil sending unit, and i reused the 3.0 dip stick and tube i just made a new bracket to bolt it on the motor it fits snugly behind the alt. and used the existing plug to plug the front tube hole. next is the exhaust, has any one used the factory 3.4 crossover in its stock position?

Some have modded the stock 3.4 crossover for a DS drop.

Good writeup here:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f160...r-pipe-138902/

I think most go DS because of the front driveshaft and general transfer case clearance issues on a 4x4.

I used the stock 3.4 crossover without any mods to it, however it won't work if you have 4wd. I had to cut the diff mount off for it to clear. It would also hit the torsion bar socket if I had that still as well.

I tried to have the 3.4 crossover modded to work, but the double flange wouldn't clear the frame rail and firewall. So I had it built to dump down into one flange. Fit perfectly. Just have to make sure it's tight to the back of the block and close to the bellhousing.

so ive hit a snag, swap is on hold, my motor is a 96 3.4 out of an auto, my plan was to use the auto harness and put the 3.0 5 speed with a 96 manual ecu, but im told i cant do that cause the plugs dont match up, my other option was to used the auto ecu that i have but cant do that either cause of fuel maps, so i think in gonna have to get a auto trans and ecu but which one? im waiting for una at ors to get back with me with parts i can use.

In theory, you should be able to use the '96 manual ECU.

Do you have the plugs for the '96 ECU? If so, you have to look at the EWD for your motor and just figure out which wire needs to go where on the '96 ECU. You'll loose the auto tranny part of the wiring harness but you don't need it.

I know there are some online sources for the plugs as well if you need to get some for the '96 ECU.

I doubt the 3.0 plugs will fit, let alone work. Search though all of the posts by "Jasond" he had some part numbers for plugs that I saw somewhere.

EDIT: Here it is: https://www.yotatech.com/50633100-post10.html

i thought I saw it on here but maybe it was on pirate. It should be possible to use the auto ecu and harness with a 5sp. You just have to fool the ecu into thinking it is in neutral. The plugs to the engine should be the exact same except that you just dont use the trans part of the auto cause wont need it.

thats what i was thinking also, but if the computer thought it was in neutral the hole time wouldnt the fuel maps and timing curve be off? on in auto ecu does putting it in gear cycle closed loop?

Interesting question, not that I've ever noticed, but mine usually goes into closed loop pretty quick after startup. Next time I have my laptop in the truck I'll take a note of that.

EDIT: Now I have noticed a pretty sharp change in A/F when I step on the brake or release the brake, but I thought that had something to do with the change in vac pressure from the brake booster. You got me thinking now.

If it were me, (and it was at one time hehe), I'd try to find an ECU that goes with the engine and engine harness. Maybe you have I don't know. But yes, I'll try to remember to check that out.

make sure that crossover to downpipe flange sits as close to the bellhousing as possible. not a whole lot of room to play with there
