I have a 1990 pickup with the 3.0 and just last night I picked up a 97 4runner great running everything except the body is trashed so I'm fixing to do the 3.4 swap into my 90 pickup 4wd 5 spd and I was just going to get everyone's advice for tips and tricks for the swap what you did for the crossover pipe the wiring the ac and everything I'll take any and all advice thanks in advance guys oh and if you bought any after market parts where did you get the my main concern is the dipstick the wiring and the ac thanks guys

Vasinvictor did a great job of getting the ac figured out, it's a sticky also.

I made my own harness, not that bad plus you'll learn tons about your rig.
If I was to do another 3.4 swap I would do away with the stock cross over, I would join the two banks under the transmission or behind the transfer case

Another question I have is will the ECM and engine work since the truck is a 5spd I've been reading and I've seen a few say it will and some say it won't which one is it thanks guys

 

My donor is a 97 auto 4 runner

 

Pay the $100 for the correct 5sp ECU, then convert the engine harness to a 5 speed, its not that difficult but takes a little time and a good bit of research to figure out what needs to be done; as another hint, look at the Swap 101 sticky, he's converts a 97 4Runner wiring from auto to 5 speed (or better yet, look at the end of my swap thread for the pinnouts for the conversion harness to mate a 97 5spd to a 91 4Runner).

If you don't want to do that, you can "trick" the ECU to think it's always in Neutral and make it work, but you will ALWAYS have a CEL (check engine light) displayed because the A/T ECU also controls the trans and expects to see signals from it, which your 5sp cannot provide, so the ECU will throw a code. Look around, it's been done, and it's been discussed at length.

Will if affect then engineif I just use the auto ECM though I can just pull the bulb out or would something still not be right

 

It can be done easily enough but you will have one code for the speed sensor po1700 no matter what.
You have to do the park/neutral switch, but you also have to remove the auto temp sensor and plug it back into the harness there is a code for that, same with the 3 shift solenoids in the trans.
These will fail due to heat and need replaced with correct resistors to cheat the ecu into thinking they are still there.
If none of this is done you will have 4 obd2 codes throughing ecu into limp mode and 7 mpg! Ask me how I know how.
That being said I'm getting over 20 on the hwy no problem now.
Converting the harness and paying 250+ shipping wasn't going to happen for a 5 spd ecu.
The info is out there some of it is on here but I really had to dig for the type of resistors used.
Good luck and yes its well worth it, the 98 harness and engine is the best IMO!
