3.4 off to a rough start need advice
well i started my 3.4 swap yesterday, before swapping my 3.0 out i had a list of things i wanted to replace on the 3.4
1 timing belt
2 water pump
3 belts
4 vale gaskets-the old ones were leaking and oil was everywhere!
5 rear main seal
6 cam seals
7 timing belt bearings
8 and some other various seals
this all was going well till lunch time when i realized that i pretty much have the whole engine apart why not save myself a head ach down the line and change the head-gaskets now.
so i started to remove the crankshaft bolt and it wont budge....tried my impact at 150psi and with the pulley holder (this is where it happened) i acteuly broke..more like fractured the crank pulley right where the two pegs go in to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i was like dang(sorry for my language i do apologies)
now im at a stand still
my first question is dose any one have a trick to get the crank pulley off without using the holder on it?
and my second one is can i use my 3vz crank pulley as a replacement?

Hang in there.
Don't worry about it, I did the same thing too. I wound up drilling a piece of 1/4" bar stock to bolt to the back of the crank and block to keep the crank from turning then ratchet strapped the motor on the stand to my 4runner's bumper to stabilize it. I then was able to get it off with a breaker bar and an extension pipe. They are tight on there, but they do come off.
As for the headgaskets, I wouldn't bother if the motor is not really high mileage 200,000 +. Toyota puts em' together really good from the factory, you shouldn't have a problem. I would to the timing/waterpump, etc.
For a replacement harmonic balancer...

check Post #36 of my swap thread. user "Greg Canada". He just offered one to me a few days back and I would assume he still has it. Great price too!!

ok so ive been working on the 3.4 for the last few-days, i have it to the block, head are cleaned and im ready for reassembly, a few quick questions
1 im going from an auto 3.0 to a manual 3.4 i have two manual trans( the one that came with the 3.4 and one i bought to work with my ifs) and saw on the 3.4 trans that there was an extra censer on it . for those who have done a manual swap can you shed some light on the tranny wiring?
2 also ive been researching on how tho change the crossover. my question is can i run this engine with duel pipes that never x? or is there not enuf back presure?

I would ren a crosover somewhere. The one from toyotaswapsonly.com is probably the way to go if you cant weld and fabricate.....like me.
SO you have two r150's? A 3.0 one and a 3.4 one? Which one are you going to use? I may be interested in the 3.4 one of you are selling it for cheap

ask for cliff. you'll send out your stock x-over pipe And they will send it back to you cut and flipped. This is the route I went, I could have had my local welder/muffler guy do it up, but I think Cliff and the guys use a mock up so you know the fit will be perfect.
I think full cost is around 120 bucks or so.

I'm able to do the welding with no problem. My question was, can I run dual straight pipes? Or is that not enough back pressure.
I still need help with tranny wiring. Does anyone have a diagram that I could use? Maybe a manual or something online?

i believe so, like a said before the 3.4 tranny has one censer more then the r150 and i wanted to know what every one else did about that, in all of the 3.4 swaps i read through they always said it just bolts on without any problem.

I'm not sure about the extra sensor. I'm using my old 92 4x4 manual tranny in my truck.
the connectors that came off of the 3.4 manual wiring is....
VSS - Speed Sensor (2 Wire) -- 3.0 VSS is a (3 Wire)
Reverse lights
I think add indicator light, which i don't have hooked up because it's quite obvious when i have the truck in 4Wheeling mode.
Just get the VSS hooked up if your using a manual. If you using the 3.4 tranny I'm not sure if you still use the 3.4 VSS or if you should swap it out and use the 3.0... IDK Try one method if that fails, then move onto the next VSS....
