what I did with the ewd's was print them out and matched the 5vz diagram to the 3vz diagram * abs to abs, reverse light to reverse light* it helps visualy. Now you need label your wires pin location and function. That way you'll be able to match the 3.0 to 3.4 stuff.

 

ok i get that but looking through the pages and i don't see a page that's dedicated to the ecu to tell you what each pin of each plug do, is it a hunting game?

 

I pretty much only use the overall wiring diagram instead of all the individual ones. It will have the ECM pinout like you want. Usually about the 4th - 6th page or so.

If you go through TIS, there are two sections you want:

In the Repair section there's a wiring diagram for the Engine Control System that's specific to your motor.

In the Diagnostics section, there's a document called terecm (or TERECM) that will show you your ECM terminal connectors and their pin numbers. Just remember, this is in the Diagnostics section, not the Repair section.

Next, download this template I made for comparing ECU functions, and print out 3 or 4 copies. This came out of the Tacoma wiring guide project. Unfortunately, you can't really use the guide because you are using a 4Runner donor motor, and although the motors are wired similarly they (stupidly) won't be identical.

Start with the 3.4 diagram and list all of the functions shown on the ECM wiring diagram. In the ECU1 columns, write down each function's connector (e.g., "E6" or "A"), and pin number; you don't need the wire color on the ECU1 side if you are repinning the connectors. You will, however, need to map a wire to every engine-related ECU1 pin to avoid a CEL.

Next, dig out the 3.0 wiring diagram and repeat the process for every function you have already identified, using all three columns for ECU2.

The end result is a wire mapping table that shows each function the donor ECU needs to run, and the corresponding wire on the stock wiring harness that will perform that function. Each blank in the ECU2 column indicates a function the donor motor's ECU needs that the stock system doesn't have. You'll need to fill those gaps.

It's a tedious process, but that's how you create a wire mapping table that is specific to your swap.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking and what you're dealing with.
Are you talking about the panel on the drivers side? I didnt use any fuse panels from the donor so I guess I used the 3.0L
Can you clarify where the cowl wire is?

 

I left the fuse panels alone. Why would you swap them?

 

the fuse panel in the cab yes, im now not planing on swaping them but having major problems with the wiring

You dont need to swap any of the fuse panels at all. All you need is the complete engine harness and the only points this harness connects to the vehicle are ground points, a few power points at relays and such, and to the other connectors next to the ecu.
Technically, you could run a 3.4 on the floor in your garage with a battery, a couple of relays and if you connect all the ground points together at the battery terminal.

 

ok, so i can use the 3.0 fuse box, but what about the starter relays, and the efi relay how are they connected?

 

Its all in the 3.4 wiring diagram. You dont have to change the starter relay or efi relays, just the location of the wires where they connect to the ecu. You will need to see where each wire connects in your old ecu diagrams, find the actual wires on the vehicle, label them then find the equivalent wires in the 3.4 diagram, find where they connect to the ecu and connect your original wires to 3.4 ecu per the 3.4 diagram. Sometimes they are even named the same and have the same colors.

 

What year is your 3.0 and what year is your 3.4?

 

3.0 is a 91, and my 3.4 is a 96

 

All that stuff is left alone. You really don't touch your body harness except at the IH1 and IH2 plugs.
