Replacing Fuel Filters

I was just thinking while i was browsing the site, and enjoying it very much so, that shouldn't we be changing the fuel filter every now and again. Or are people changing them, just not me.

I would think it is as important to have your fuel filtered as you oil... well maybe not as important, but important none the less.

Also, i have a 97 T100 with about 120k miles, and just started to run a little skimpish these past few weeks. Anything i should check? is it time for some maintanence? I just did the oil about 2k miles ago, but am thinking of doing it again since i did'nt get the response i wanted-seemed to run a little worse, but maybe it just happened to be a timing coincidence.

Hi Tato,

Please make your thread topics more clear. Please refer to https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/please-make-your-thread-topics-easy-read-understand-53802/

Many people are changing fuel filters. Search "fuel filter" or "changing fuel filter" and you'll probably find alot of threads on the topic. Also, lots of members are running fuel injector cleaners like BG44 or others like Seafoam through their fuel systems as well. Search both topics for more info.

I have a writeup on changing out a fuel filter on a 3rd gen 4runner. Might be a very similar process on your T100: http://www.4runners.org/articles/fuelfilter

Do the fuel filter change, it should be a snap to do and make sure to do a tune-up as well. Maybe clean out the MAF too?

Hey Tato,

When was the last time you changed your spark plugs? Your truck may need new ones if it is missing or running slugish. What about the plug wires? I would check them for cracks because over time the rubber breaks down and they can cause a mis fire. Good luck.

I haven't worked on too many engines, minus older cars. 40's and 50's some 60's. Are the spark plugs for the new cars pre-gapped. or spaced, or whatever its called (can't remember). Is it just a plug and go...or in this case...screw and go?

Do this...

Tato, though this write-up was written for Taco/Runner owners, it is equally applicable to T100 owners with the 3.4L.
30K/24mo. Maintenance
Included you'll find plugs, fuel filter, and a few other items. I just completed this myself... cleans up the operation quite a bit.
