CV boot clamps....

CV boot clamps....

...can someone fill me in on how to install these? There are 2 types they give you in the 3rd gen rebuild kit....one i kinda get -
you fold it over and bend the little tangs down

the other

Any help would be great - thanks!

one you bend over, that's the easy one. The other you need to get a tool from autozone or somewhere to "crimp" the band. it cost me about $10 at my local autozone.

Before I got that tool I actually used some side cutters, like wire cutters to crimp them. It works but I wouldn't suggest it unless you are desperate.

autozone has those crimpers - and they are right down the street

heh. yeah, it's a mess....one question that no one has answered me yet....:

when replacing the 1/2 shaft....do i HAVE to drain the dif? or???

I can see where you would not have to if you left the tulip joint part in the dif...but when doing the entire 1/2 shaft?

no. the level should be low enough, at least, it never leaks out when I pull mine. But another thing you can do is only do one side at a time, that way one side is jacked up keeping the oil to one side.
