Clutch and Timing chain replacement ?'s

I am going to replace the clutch and timing chain here is a month or 2. I have a couple of questions for you guys. 1) where can I get the most "bang" for my buck - as far as pricing and quality?? and 2) Do you think that it would be easiest to just "yank" the whole engine out? ANY help will be GREATLY appreciated!!

its got a chain, so wouldnt that be a 20 series r something? oh yeah, and for clutch jsut drop the tranny.... i replaced my clutch with the engine out, and it was easy, but i was doing an engine swap, so the engine was already out... i wouldnt take the engine out for the clutch only....

I am going to do the timing chain AND clutch at the same time. My buddy was just talking about a centerforce - dual friction clutch... (I think) do you guys have any experience with this - and if so, the best place to get it??

There is no need to get a dual friction unless you are pushing a lot more HP or at least plan to. I have experience with the Centerforce "stage 1" which has 30% better holding power than stock. I put one on a Mazda truck and a 95 Civic SI. The clutch never let me down on either vehicle, and I drove them like a freakin madman.

Well, I am looking at putting bigger tires on (31-32" x 10.5 - nothing too huge) and I heard that would be a good bet... but that's it.

You won't hurt anything with the DF, but why spend the money if you don't really need it? That's my point.

You can also score a decent Exedy clutch on ebay (look for the 30% better than stock) for a really good deal as a kit. I just don't see the need in your case to exceed 30%.

Sweet - thanks for the help. Now what about the timing chain? I found something through 4crawler.com - they redirected me to www.doaracingengines.com - they have the plastic guides with a metal backing. They say that they guarantee them for the life of the engine... but they want $275... A) does that sound about right and B) do you think that's worth it, or should I just keep with the stock, regular plastic ones? By the way - for the $275 - you get...

• Upper and lower gears
• Metal backed guides
• High quality chain
• Chain tensioner
• Main seal (high quality)
• Gaskets and hardware.

Thanks again for your help - it's probably going to save me a lot of money!!

For the timming chain. I got one from EB. yes it only has the drivers side metal back but he also has a warenty. Sweet thing was I got his kit off of ebay for $50.

Another question, How many miles did your stock clutch last? I didn't replace mine until the 150K mark, and that was running 31's for 70K of that, the one that replaced that was stock and I got over 100K on it. They last and take the abuse, just ask my truck it'll tell you. Try and find an online dealer to get one from.

I bought my clutch and flywheel here truckperformance I bought the 5lb heavier flywheel and the centerforce clutch. Both work great. They were the cheapest that I found on the net. That was about 6 months ago so it may not be true anymore.

I think eb's kit is around $80 and it includes metal backed guides and pretty much everything you listed. $275 seems like a lot for a timing chain set, even if it includes a new cover.
