can anyone out there identify this component (circled in yellow)? mine is ticking rather loudly, and i'm thinking to switch it out with a new one. i have a laundry list of other oem parts i'm going to mail-order and figured i'd add this to the roster.

any input appreciated. muchas gracias.

To make an educated guess I would have to say that is your flux capacitor actuator valve regulator.

Actually I think it is the fuel pressure regulator. It's not connected to the exhaust in any way is it? Cause it really looks like an EGR valve to me but if it's not connected to the exhaust... then I'm wrong.

The ticking is more than likely normal. I'm pretty sure you are hearing and feeling injector tick traveling up through the fuel rail and regulator.

The fuel pressure regulator is notorious for ticking. Pretty much all 3.0s tick there.

Yes that is the FPR and yes it does tick and yes it's normal. Although mine doesn't do it loudly. You are probably just hearing the regular valvetrain noise and feeling the tick on the regulator. Valves tick, injectors tick, FPRs ticks, reed valves tick. I'm sure there's more on this engine that ticks.

hey, thanks for all your replies!

so i guess i won't, necessarily, add that fuel pressure regulator to the list, but it is, by far, the loudest anomalous noise coming from my engine compartment. i had replaced part of the EGR system a while back and thought that this may have been the next target for replacement.

another thought, how about cleaning it? anyone tried that?
