Remove engine w/out tranny?

Hey everyone, I have a '93 pickup and I'm swapping the old 22re for a rebuilt one. Is it possible to remove the engine without removing the transmission? How? I've searched these posts and can't seem to find any info on it, so any help would be great.

More specifically, when people say they leave the transmission in the vehicle, do they mean they leave the crossmember attached and driveshafts on?

Yea it shouldn't be any problem,

Unbolt the transmission, remove hoses wires etc. and pull her out

Great, thanks for the reply! I've already removed all the wiring and hoses so the engine is ready to come out. After I unbolt the engine from the transmission and attach it to a hoist, will the engine simply slide forward and disconnect from the transmission shaft?

For the most part yes.

Pull the radiator and bring the engine forward as much as possible to clear the clutch and lift her up and out. Might have to shake and sway it in a few different directions but is 100% possible.

i used a jack under the tranny to lift it up a BIT...you need to lift the motor up enough to clear the guide pins in the motor mounts if you left them attached to the engine, THEN move it forward... hope this helps!

If it's an auto tranny make sure you remove the torque converter bolts too.

Also, remove the starter and unplug all of the wires from the tranny/t-case and o2 sensor on the exhaust because it will all be attached to the engine wiring harness.
