yoterr's SAS

so im finally doing my SAS but not because i want too or have the time too, darn neighbors turned me in to the county for an inoperable vehicle cuz i cut the IFS out a couple months ago, so now i have to do it or i get fined 250 a day for it sitting.....kinda rediculous and i made this thread when i was planing on a V8...tried to change the title but ANYWAYS on to the good stuff!!

on to the pics!

wheels off

most of the steering unbolted and upper balljoints unbolted

everything off

sold all this stuff for 400 bucks

fast forward about 6 months n i finally got everything off n cleaned, found it a TON cleaner to use a grinder with about 10 cutoff wheels to get off all the brackets, did one side with a torch n other with the grinder...had to go back to the torch side anyway n grind it all off..

Made a plate to strengthen up the front Xmember a lil

Spring hanger tacked n place about 3/4-1" forward, have since made some corner gussets for the back and got the side gussets n the mail n welded it all on

how it sits now without any shackles

Ran out of gas for the torch, sits crazy high especially without any shackles but i still have to pull the axle again anyways and get rid of the retarded 1" blocks and pull the overload and maybe a main, and gusset it and all that pretty stuff, ill have an update for when i do all that....but hopefully good enuf for the county man, lemme know what yall think

I think you should get rid of the body lift.
Other then that, looks good.

allright finally got my arse in gear and got going on my SAS, i pulled the axle back out for a rebuild (PITA!!) it fought me tooth and nail, the trunion bearings were seazed onto the lower knuckle caps, after about 2 days screwin with trying to get em off i just ordered new ones, also ordered steering box relocation kit and knuckle rebuild kit from wabfab..went to 3 different pick n pulls to find some toy rears for a RUF but alas all the toys were STRIPPED so i started measureing and found the nissan rears are the same so i got me some for about 30 bucks...on to the pics

trunion races out

axle all gusseted..will add armor later

knuckles all rebuilt (good god PITA!!) and 3rd in

axles in and hubs on, martacked my axles cuz the clips i ordered from wabfab were HUGE?? im sure itll be better in the long run anyways

my nissan leafs main and secondary from nissan and lower 2 from stock toy front..

axle all mocked in place

front shot..still gotta put the 3/8's plate on the drivers side

pass side

5-30-11 update

well got most of my list done, finished the shock mounts, pulled my axle again to paint and remove my stupid shims and to put in round u bolts instead of the square ones, i think they'll work nicely per 4crawlers lil notch trick, put everyting back together using the stock SFA calipers and rotors, moved my steering box forward enough to cut into my body mount, extended my steering wich was easy, another 4crawler trick by melting the plastic rivit deals and extending it..only thing left is a D-shaft and better shocks but enough blabbering on to the pics!

steering box plates mocked

and another

all weldered up

shock mounts in

reason for removing my shims and going to round u bolts and yes they were tight

well it got late and i just finished er all up and took some pics

took her for a drive, man it feels good to drive it again..i cant wait for a D-shaft and to go wheeling again...

UPDATE 6/1/11

got to take her out on a lil shakedown run, drove it to and from the wheeling spot 50+ and no death wobble or anything! im stoked its still streetable, do need to improve on the brakes a tad and im gonna have to ditch the nissan springs, annnnd my steering wheel is off one full turn lol...anyways on to the pics!

lil bit of flex

i like the droop, and the brake lines are about at their maximum lol

another poser shot in a different place

uptravel sucks..figured out why ill show you soon..

shocks and brake line maxed

shock hoops all did

heres why i need to ditch the nissans...the nissan leafs are pretty darn thin, and they dont have a military wrapped second leaf..and the stock toys i used are pretty beefy..and well when its at full stuff the thin leaves are being put in a double S curving around the stock toys...and there not even flat...sooo F-150's for the rear and my toy rears up front later on...lol

nice build!

It looks really good man! Nice job! Im gonna reference ur pics when helping my friend do his SAS. Ive been telling him to come to yotatech to have a better idea but he wont lol. He got the kit from trailgear with all the springs and mounts and everything he needs. Even has detailed instructions. So thats helps lol.

Good luck and keep posting pics! I cant wait to do this one day! No hardcore wheelin til u have a SFA! IFS is still fun tho
