HOW ABOOT A BUMP EH?

 

I just got back from an Abalone and Lingcod tournament down in Manchester so the swap got delayed. I decided to register and go at the last minute and on the drive down the swell shifted and got bigger and as a result the conditions were awful. I did get a few fish and abs and I placed in the tournament and won a dive back pack. SO, I suppose putting off the swap for a few days was worth it.

 

Nice Build... off topic, where did you buy the canvas canopy and your roof rack from?? Thanks and good luck on the build..

PS... If you lived up here in Canada you'd never get your SAS done.. Fishing is world Class and Surfing up or down Vancouver Island is great year round... Love all the pics.. And yes if I lived closer I'd be helping out too.. Looking forward to seeing how she turns out..

I started the chop today. Good ole sawzall
my kit came today via big white not big brown. Big white can never find my house so he dropped it off across the street
Anyway I got it and in the morning I will finish up the axle, mount the diff and calipers and smarten it up!
As for the chop....EH! It was kinda slow. I was nervous as to where to start. I had a few issues with the torsion bars. 904RUNNER totally helped me out on how to proceed with those. Tomorrow is a new day and with that I hope to have chopped.

I bought the canvas top from a company called Soft topper www.softtopper.com and the rack is from Yakima.
I might be selling the canvas top here pretty soon. I am entertaining the idea of a flatbed for this rig. If you are interested let me know. I would probably sell it for around $350.00.

 

Yeah! Chop that stuff off and send some of it my way! I'm super stoked for you! You do great work; this is gonna be one rad truck when it's all put back together. Almost makes me want to do an SAS. I think it's more than I need, though. But still, sweet rig!

SA assembly (almost.) I ran into some trouble today with the after market lug (wheel studs.) They would not go in! I used every damn hammer in the shop. I finally gave up and tomorrow I have to pull some out of an 83 at the junk yard
This mornings overwhelming amount of crap to deal with and those damn wheel studs stalled a few things

I only got everything under the UCA's they are still on and I have to deal with them at dark o clock AM

For that compliment I will send any of my IFS stuff your way!!! I did tell one guy he could have the TRE's since his literally exploded while he was driving down the freeway and the lift spacers, sway arm bushings and shocks someone got already. Tell me what you want and I will get it ready.

Yikes! Exploding and freeways don't generally go well together so that other guy definitely gets those. How the hell do you grenade a TRE?

I'm just lookin' to ditch my ADD really. So hubs and the diff. From your sig it looks like you've got 4.88's in there. I wouldn't have any problem with that if they're included! I'm gonna need new meats soon and I'm gonna go with 33's. Anyway, PM me and we can work out shipping and compensation details. Keep up the good work!

 

AH man a sawzall i just chopped mine with an angle grinder even though I OWN A TORCH i'm just out of acetylene ..i feel your pain man

Take a picture of the Dorman supposed replacement wheel studs compared to the OEM and you will see the difference and why they won't go in. I ran into the problem a while back and just pony up and buy OEM wheel studs. I mic'd them at work and they are just too big and not something I wanted to grind on to make fit.

The aftermarket ones are too big in the taper and simply DO NOT FIT properly.

Yes, the OEM ones are expensive, but how often do you replace the wheel studs?

 

I had a feeling you had seen this problem Wabbit! I was beginning to think my rotor hubs were made funky

ohh. don't forget that the uca's easily unbolt, and that the torsion bar just slips out of the mount thats in the rear.

Your rig has hit the point of no return I remember when all my IFS junk was sitting on my garage floor, I'm not going to lie to there was a moment when I was like what the F am I thinking I just cut up a perfectly good 4x4.

She looks like she's coming along nice keep up the detailed work.

I haven't seen you on in while. Good to see you are still around!! I was at Johns Auto Wreckers all morning. I needed the wheel studs out of an 83 in there. I just made it. They were about to crush it. ahhahhaha
After I get this rig together we should hit up route 36!

 

HOLY FREGGIN CRAP!!!
What a long day. SO,,,, much to my surprise the new shiny lug wheel studs I ordered don't work ($30.00 for 12.) As a result, I had to go the the junk yard this morning and pull the hub housing off and get the wheel studs out. The poor 83 in there was about to be crushed. Gary at John's Auto Wreckers held it for me so I could get them out. Thanks Gary you rock!!!
It took me 2 hours to get that muddy, rusted, bent, axle apart. It was a total nightmare but I got the studs out. Here is the deal- The aftermarket, NAPA, Rockauto, Kragen, lug wheel studs are bigger and will not go in the rotor and rotor hub housing. If you are going to replace the studs on an 81 - 83 you have to use OEM or you will pound your new rotor into oblivion trying to get them in. I have made mistakes like this too many times so instead of whaling on my new rotor I consulted the Wabbit. Of course he has seen this before and told me exactly what to do. "You will have to pony up to buy new ones at the dealer." I decided to hit up the JY first. I was lucky.
I finally got the housing and hub together and got things painted up.

Steering arms painted. Kind of a cool color. Matches my porch chair. That is self etching primer. Soon they will be satin black.

Since my kit didnt come with instructions, does anyone know the torque specs for the inside lug nuts on the wheel spacer???
