You've may have already answered this but. Do you have to make your own shock mounts or can you use the ones that are already on the axle housing. And my next question, what's the point of the JB weld on the knuckle balls?

 

I know this ain't my thread but thought I'd give you my 2cents on your question.
I recently did an SAS and I just reused the same shock mounts on my axle housing. But, It is nicer to have the other ones that are included in the sas/ifs eliminator kits instead because they are beefier. More heavy duty(but its not like the stock ones are gonna break on you when you wheel. After all its iust a shock not a leaf spring). At least that's what I concluded when I compare the ones that came in the kit and the ones still on the axle.

As for the JB weld. Sometimes those ends have a few rust pores when it should be smooth thus explaining the usage of JB weld. (To fill those pores and make it smooth again). I have seen a few pix of some in pretty bad shape with loads of rust pores. I'm sure if that's why he used that method.

REDDETH05 is right. I used the TG mounts that came with the kit. Much more easy and they are built a little more beefy.

Bumping this because I just finished 19 pages. The attention to detail and the overall craftsmanship exhibited in this thread are inspirational as has already been noted by those more in the know than myself. Great build, man. Super happy that you give it such high reviews on the trail. The solid axle trail rig and occasional rock crawler is where I hope my 85 pickup will end up eventually. Will Hy-Steer/crossover fit my truck?
I've got an '85 with Old Man Emu Springs and Shocks providing about 2.5" of lift.
It's not a serious crawler, but like the Shark build, mostly a trail rig used for occasional rock fields/boulders in the Sierras. (lockers, '32's, 4.56 gears, armor).
I've read extensively, and most say 3" is minimum, but you've got one...
Is it worth a try or should I simply replace my push/pull box that's getting worn.
... been down this road before and decided to stick with stock, but now the steering is getting scary on the pavement.
Are there other options?
