thats exactly right, you cant put the thing in the middle of the steering and expect it to work, looks like your whole front end is loose ubolt wise and steering wise, you should have SAS;d whatever car you had, it might have been safer.....

Aww, gotcha. Now here is probably another dumb question but I was wondering if the steering knuckles can be switched upside down so they angle up instead of down, then it looks like it would clear the spring. Just wondering, I havent even been to bed yet because this is really bugging the crap out of me, lol.

borrowed this pic from a for sale thread as an example--these are high steer arms but show the part of the arm that acts at the pivot

I think forward shackle setups are not a good idea.
