thats exactly right, you cant put the thing in the middle of the steering and expect it to work, looks like your whole front end is loose ubolt wise and steering wise, you should have SAS;d whatever car you had, it might have been safer.....

Aww, gotcha. Now here is probably another dumb question but I was wondering if the steering knuckles can be switched upside down so they angle up instead of down, then it looks like it would clear the spring. Just wondering, I havent even been to bed yet because this is really bugging the crap out of me, lol.

nope, the steering arms have a trunnion bearing that pivots on the steering ball/knuckle assembly.

borrowed this pic from a for sale thread as an example--these are high steer arms but show the part of the arm that acts at the pivot

Check this thread out. He is running his shackles where yours are and loves them, so its doable.

Watched an FJ40 with same setup slide down an embankment and into a rock on his driver front tire. Snapped his main leaf behind the axle. All the weight of the vehicle was instantly shifted to the leaf spring. With a fixed pivot at the rear.. The spring takes all the brunt.

I think forward shackle setups are not a good idea.

I agree, but if he doesnt have the money to re-do it, he might at least be able to make it safer to drive.
