ive been doing alot of research and finding alot of great info on here for my 87 runner project but i cant seem to find what im looking for so a little help is needed.

im trying to find different frame heights of SAS'd 1st gen runner, however im looking for the height at the front and rear. not the middle like most people list. im trying to see how far im will be off from my states legal height limit once i get done with the swap. im trying to be as close to legal as possible seeing it will have some street time. looking for heights with 35" or 37" tires and let me know what size lift you have. also if you have trimmed the sheetmetal and how much. thanks

 

They will be concerned with bumpers and headlights more than the frame probably. Find someone in your state and ask them.

I'm at about 23.5" to the lowest part of the frame on my '85 sitting on 33s. In CA, the limit for "passenger vehicles" is 24", but if you register the 4Runner as commercial, you go by GVWR and get 30" max:

And I do carry a printout of this section of the VC in my glove box, along w/ a tape measure in case I ever get questioned on this, especially when I get the 35s on, as I'll be over the 24" limit.

 

PA is currently using bumper height as well, but is trying to change to OEM bumper mounting location. (frame).

This was due to people using modified Tractor Trailer bumpers and also adding headlights to those bumpers to pass the headlight height requirements. haha.

 

i know what the laws are in my state. but like i said most list frame height in center of truck. im looking for it at the front and rear frame horns. my state goes by bumper height or frame at mounting points whichever is lower

 

last time I tried this, I got told build it and figure where you stand. Similar instance as you, just trying to figure out how high my DIY bumper would be when I put my 2" lift springs on.

 

i understand what your saying but i dont want to drop all that money just to find out i have to order different springs to replace my new ones i just bought cuz they are too high.

there are enuf SAS'd 4runners on here im sure someone could take a measurement for me. i dont need pics or anything i just want to know what size lift and tires are on it and the measuremnt. thanks again

 

89 4runner, SAS using stock 86 4runner rears up front with the overload (soon to be takin out). rear is stock with 4" blocks and sits low in the rear ( being replaced by 63" chevys) and 3" body lift with Half bald 36x12.50 TSLs. The front measures like 26" to the bottom of the spring hanger and about 28" to the original cross member in the front. There is PLENTY of room for the 36s. Body lift is being removed or cut down as soon as the rear is done. I dont remember the measurements for the rear. I ran my front hanger 3/4" forward and the shackle angle is perfect with the 22re. The old setup was just cranked to the max torsion bars with the rear 4" blocks and it sat level. I gained about 3 1/2" over that after the SAS. hope this helps as i was in the same boat as you. the limit in NH is no more than 30" front and rear. This setup works perfect to keep it legal, run 35-37" tires, and flexes like crazy. I will never buy antother "kit" for a SAS.

 

yea here in Va its 28" to the bottom of the frame. im not too worried about being over but dont wanna get hassled! i want to run 37's but think im gonna have to settle for 35's cuz i already have the wheels and there 15's so that should help keep it low (cant get km2's or mtr's in a 37 for 15's anymore ugh!!) but anyways i appreciate everyones help!

 

In MN if your vehicle is over 25 you get collector plates and none of these laws apply. Might be something for you to look into.

 

and then you can only drive it for so many miles a year, and depending on some other factors, only during the day, etc etc. Some states I think even make you have full insurance on them as well not just liability.

Does a 4runner or a pickup even qualify as a collector's vehicle? ie classic, antique etc etc. I'm not so sure.

 

In MN the only restriction is age. It has to be 25 years old. And can only be driven 6000 miles a year.

 

The antique tag idea only gets you out of having the safety inspection done here. They still have height laws for driving around and that has nothing to do with the inspection. I was just looking for a measurement for under the frt spring hanger crossmember and underneath the rear frame by the back bumper to get an idea of how illegal the truck will be when I'm done with ass. Preferably on 35 or 37 inch tires.
