I have done some trails in AZ--Broken Arrow, Schnebbly Hill, some trails out by 4 peaks, some trail that took us to a place called Hells Gate, some trails out east of Apache Junction, and of course I have beat my truck up by the Salt River.

I think we should see what the interest level is and stay closer to where most people are coming from.

So what do you guys think?? For a 2 day run I would rather stay in So Cal. If I had 3 or 4 days I would love to go to AZ.

Lets start planning this so more people will come!!

To be honest with you guys if you want to locate it in the center of the West, MOAB is the spot. It would be around 5 hours for all of us, you'll draw the Colorado folks as well as some midwesterners. I bet Joe would come down from Dakota as well.

MOAB is centered, Arizona would have the most scenic trails and the quietest nights, Cali would be close to you guys but too far for Colorado, Utah, etc. Basically only Phoenix people would be willing to trek to CA.

I'd be down for Moab. But believe it or not, there is some wheeling in Iowa...

How about Disney, OK? I've never been there but have heard some stuff about it.

5 hours to moab my hindquarters!

But I'm a "likely" for any of the above if there will be any room for a lightly modded 4R with a fairly inexperienced pilot.

(should be decently armored by then, but I still won't know wtf I'm doing! )

(hmmm, just read tom's post... not sure about that iowa thing! )

I hear some other people might be in Moab later in the year, say the later part of September or so.

The "real" Jambo is back on for the end of April at the Hammers.

Moab is way cool, but it may be tough finding a date in the early part of the year that does not have anything else, or suitable trail leaders to keep the size down.

I for one hate mud and would not encourage a Midwest, as in Midwest proper, Jambo. Most Wisconsin wheeling is muddy rocks and that is not fun. Having it at a park sort of is a bummer in my mind too. It is cooler to do trails and go around to see things.

How about...AZ in the early summer, before it gets 110 degrees. Then Moab in September.

I think we should all try to get out to see Schaefer and see what he keeps raving about.

Maybe Death Valley would be another option--closer for Steve and other Zonians
TTORA goes to joshua tree a lot and I can only assume that since it's usually a large gathering and no authorities have said anything, that it's legal.

I don't think you want to go to death valley during the summer, it'll put Az to shame. I'm heading there with my club in a couple weeks.

Should we setup a poll of the locations that's been suggested so we can get started on this?

Figure it'd be nice to get something up for march 20-21.

I'd be down for a road trip, might be able to convince a few other WA boys to go for a drive.....Moab is sweet, mountain biked down there but never wheeled. AZ would be cool too.

Think I'll be at the Tinbender's Toy Jambo @ Hammers, the estimated $30.00 fee is real reasonable, and any profit is being donated to the Surprise Canyon trail fight.

Come on out to AZ-

but, the end of April is about as late as I'd recommend. In early May, the temps can be over 100, and at least in the last 2 years, there was still a little stagnant water in the deeper pools- the humidity and bugs were unreal.

I've run all the moderate trails at Table Mesa, IE: Upper and Lower Raw Deal (-3 to 4 rated), Upper and Lower Terminator (+3 to 4 rated), Judgement Day (4 rated), and Predator (+4 rated). We've also been over many of the easy to moderate trail near Prescott and Crown King, if anyone wants to take an extended trail ride..........

As far as Moab goes, it's 410 miles one way from my house, a good 8 hour drive..................and I'm 80 miles north of Phx
It only takes me an hour to get to Flagstaff, and thats a good 2-1/2 hour drive from Phx, so if Steve can get to Moab in 5 hours, he's going a "few" MPH over the limit (like 50+)

The last time I was up in Moab, the whole freakin' area was WAY to crowded. Sharing a trail w/ 30 or 40 rigs makes for a LONGGG day.

later

So far my favorite whole trail is Martinez, the best I have had the pleasure of doing.

Moab is awesome and would be well suited to bone stock on up to tube.

When I did Martinez with Steve, I have no offer to drive, it was July, and it was 113. Not too bad, but not too good.

If you want to do Moab, wait for the Fall when others are hitting it up.

If you want to Arizona, do it at the time that Arizona Rocks was last year.

If you want to go to the real Jambo, it is April 24-26 at the Hammers.

What do you guys think about Big Bear? Its got loads of trails at different levels of difficulty. Its relatively close to all of SoCal and theres lots of cheap places to stay for the road trippers.

Edit: Heh, just saw that Goodtimes just ran Big Bear today..

I am with you Mikey--some of the other places would be great, and I do want to plan a trip to Moab, and I am going to CO later this year.

But for that weekend I say Superstitions or I will go to the Jambo at JV with the hardcore guys from PBB and watch them thrash their rigs and drink beer.
