Basically, we found a spot that had an existing fire ring (just rocks in a circle) and camped there for the night. We tried to camp next to some mines, but it was already taken. The white 4runner in front is Roger Brown and the dark 2nd gen in the way back is Alfred.

Alfred, do you remember where this was?
Steve,

Actually....you do. I remember you posted the GPS track from the trip.

The spot is where you marked Sat Camp. You could give them the GPS coord, but I'm sure there are a lot closer ones to FC or SW.

What are you doing for breakfasts/lunches/dinners?

Is ice available?

Will you be cooking food on an open fire or a LP gas fire?

Are fuel stops planned or do we need to be carrying gas at any time?

Sorry if these questions are a bit anal but I hate to hold anyone up because I haven't adequately prepared.

What are the likley night temps.?
I'm bringing a fair amount of my food, supplementing from the stores.

I'll probably do some lovely navy eggs in the mornings, some mix of stews, chili's, etc for dinner, sandwhiches or similiar for lunch. Plan on carrying lunch each day, since we are going to be hell and gone far from the stores around lunch time. There's a nice restaurant at FC, not sure what there is at SW, but I'm sure there is something.

Ice is available at FC, and I *think* at SW.

I'll be cooking on a coleman stove if I can borrow one, or one of my backpacking stoves otherwise.

Fuel carry is not strictly necessary since we are basing near the gas stations, but I'm gonna try and get a few gallons of get-ya-back gas myself.

Temps are available on the daily report...

Yeah I dont know if there are going to be clearance issues on the trails. I'm not lifted that much to be honest. Just get used to skidplates doing their job

Good thing you missed on the NE stuff, XREAS is expensive to replace.

You'll be fine. 80% of the stuff is rough gravel road kinda things, at the worst. I'm stock height as well, so that's no worries either. I've done a fair amount of this area on crappy old uniroyals with no probs.

Steve managed to find some stuff to tear up tires on his last trip, but I think he was tryin... since the vehicles that got torn up were fords...

Ok - more organisational issues (for me!)

Has anyone CONFIRMED where they are staying? Please state where if so.

If you have not confirmed anything, where do you intend on staying?

Do I need to get a desert pass/camping pass both? If so, where do I get this?

Thanks as always,
Markl

i havent confirmed my accomadations yet because it seems like stovepipe seems to be the only option. and since stovepipe is on a first come first serve basis, i was hoping ill show up early enough on friday to get a spot. if not, i was planning on looking for backcountry camping but i havent really researched that part yet. i should probably get on that soon.

Mark,

I will be staying in Ridgcrest (best Western China Lake BLvd on Friday, this is already booked. I'm still trying to get a room fro Friday at Stovepipewells.

Then Sat-Tur morning will be at STovepipewells Village.

I think Scott will be staying at the FC campgrounds for the whole time.

I think the best would be to contact DV park people directly in connection with passes.

By the way, I do not recommend the budget inn in ridgecrest. It is not the chain motel, it's a little mom and pop place. I called and asked if they accept dogs. They said yes so I reserved a room with them. I arrive and they want a $10 pet deposit...cash. Right there I knew I wasn't getting it back, but I figured it was only $10. So...the rooms were a dump, the water never got really hot, and the shower heads produced water that stung because it came out so fast. The next day they wouldn't give my deposit back because they said I had more than 1 dog. They never mentioned a limit on dogs.

Scott how late should we meet at SW on Saturday morning to do the top around loop? Maybe we can skip Scotty's Castle and do it on Mon or Tue?? This will give us at least an hour.
