Cover page article and photo in today's LA Times was on DV and the record rainfall. Supposed to be one of the best wildflower blooms in DV history in March. Photo was of a couple of people w/a/canoe on a large lake that has formed because of all the rain. Perhaps we should bring our floatie rafts and soak in the sun and drink a few coldies on the lake?

Correction: The article was in section B1, along with the canoe photo. The front page cover photo was of someone walking in ankle-deep lake water.

Put me down as a big MAYBE for Fri/Sat/Sun (big as in like 60% not going). I'm just gonna be kinda wingin' it as far as camping (sleeping in my Runner) goes. I'll also have been there the weekend before.

Also, is it gonna be a huge deal if I don't have a CB? Or the fact that I'm currently stock? (I'm not to worried about the latter)

Cool!!!

drbeau, stock should be fine and CB is not a big deal. You will just have to be midpack so we dont loose you. you can also get a cheap handheld cb.

I have FRS too. Won't these work out there? I could just give drbeau one of these and keep him in the loop about what we are doing right?

I'll be able to have an FRS (for the trip I have the weekend before). I'll try and get a CB, but I don't know how likely that will be.

Yeah FRS will work. I have 2 FRS units as well, but Ithink we will use CB as main comms. I think it will work if one or two people have FRS and CB to keep beau in the loop.

I ordered a Midland 75-822 handheld convertible CB yesterday thru Amazon. $85 and no tax or shipping. They say 5-9 days for shipping, but when I tracked it online I saw that it shipped out of Phoenix and was in Vernon this AM. DOn't think you'll find a better price anywhere.

Most likely I won't make it. I'm going to be busy at the end of the month and if I do come it'll only be for the weekend. It's a long drive just for a weekend trip.

Don't forget me. I'm trying to make this trip (as long as i can get the days off). I'll only be there Fri-Sun. I'll be between LA/Inland Emprie and DV at the time, so maybe we could get a caravan going for people coming from the East LA area Friday? Now to get a CB...

While I encourage anyone to get CB for this and future YT trips, don't sweat it *too* much. There's plenty of us with both CB and FRS to relay as necessary.

If you can, get the CB. Then you won't miss out on such scintillating comments as "oh man... we are *so* ˟˟˟˟˟˟ lost...."

If not, no worries. You'll undoubtedly get the reprocessed version "Scott led us into ANOTHER gol-darned blind canyon. Get the ropes to string his arse up".

Add your name to the list with any notes that may apply. It makes it a lot easier to keep track of people rather than going back and searching the whole thread.

Alright, I still need to get some camping stuff tho, sleeping bag, pad, stove, solar shower?, etc. I also want to get a tire inflator. And considering the time of year we'll be there, what kind of spare parts/fluids would you recommend I bring, knowing that my Runner has only 8K miles on it.

Well you can't do worse than I did

Comments like " Where the hell are we?" "WHere are we on the map?, which map?" OR " Where the hell is he driving? Can't he hear us? Lets ask some locals? He actually gets lost with a GPS? Dammit!!"

Ok quick note to everybody. If you are not on the list please add yourself, with required comments.

Scott, how late should we meet Sat morning at SW to do the Sat trip?

Bulldog, we'd want to start as early as convenient for ya on saturday; the scheduled tours for that day are pretty long. If we could meet up by 9:30, that'd be great, since you're two hours out, right? 10:00 would be ok too; we may have to push a little bit by the end of it all...
