erikjeanna sent me this link about a CIA plane that crashed into the side of a mountain. it does not sound like it is too far off the beaten path for us to see.

"Should you ever find yourself in Death Valley while on vacation and have the urge to view this stalwart SA-16 at her final resting place we will offer the following directions. First obtain any good road map that shows the northern area of Death Valley to include the small communities of Panamint Springs and Stovepipe Wells. Highway 190 passes through both communities. If you are traveling east on 190 you will reach a wide spot in the road 8.2 miles from Panamint Springs. This area is marked with a sign which reads, "Scenic Point." If you are traveling west on Highway 190 you will come upon this "Scenic Point" approximately 16.4 miles from Stovepipe Wells. Here is where you get out of your car and with a good 10 X 50 power binocular look north approximately 323 degrees magnetic. Not too far below the mountain ridge line you will see the SA-16 resting on a steep rocky slope."

Yeah baby... I found that link! Too bad I won't be able to see it! Be sure to sign the log book up there!

I didn't even know about this trip. Edwin has kept me out of the loop and will be dealt with accordingly (dipped in hot oil and fed to my goldfish).

Turns out, about 6 weeks ago I booked a fun filled 18-hour crash course of real estate crap for that weekend! Yeah, just what we need... one more RE agent in CA. However, I'll be the wheelin' 4Runner RE agent! I'll refuse to sell to Jeep owners unless they double the commission!

You guys have a great time and be sure to take lots of photos of the plane if you go. Just in case you're wondering how I found this link, my family and I recently got into this game called geocaching. Some of you may have heard of it, some may have not. It's basically the new technologocal treasure hunt of the 21st century. People use GPS technology to hide 'treasures' and then post the coordinates on http://www.geocaching.com/. Then people go and find it (the cache), sign the book and then go on to the next one. This happened to be one of them. Here is a link to the geocaching page regarding this cache:

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache...6-c1ff117a3ffa

Good luck and have a blast for me!

mmmm...Geocaching. I did that when Phalanx snapped his Hi-Steer assembly at Superstition and we found a cache that happened to be nearby. If I had GPS it would give me something to do on Thursday while I waited for people to show up.

Yeah, it's quite fun... I'm totally addicted to it. Also, it costs a hell of a lot less than upgrading my 4Runner! You can get an eTrex GPS for like $100 new and like $50-80 used on eBay. Definately worth the money.

It is totally worth it! It's great for when you travel to a new area and are looking for things to do.

A GPS unit is on my list, but I really need to gear down my truck spending. I was thinking the Garmin 60 series. I used Phalanx's at Superstition and I fell in love.

Just thought I'd mention that I can't make this, sadly. I just can't get the time off now and take the time I need to take off later in the year. :'-(

Erik, I'm laughing my arse off. Sorry bro, I've been real busy transitioning to a new job role and I just came back from NY. To be honest, I'm hoping that this works for me as I have to go back to NY next week as well.

Back to topic, sorry guys...

Hate to do this guys but duty calls and I am being flown out to Fallon NV to do some troop training. I will not be able to make this run.

I am bummed but will try to make it next year if at all possible.

Have a great time and be safe out there. And take lot of pics for us!

FYI, PSR recently sold (it has been For Sale for awhile) and the liquor license paperwork has not yet been finalized. I would plan on bringing your own booze for those who want to drink.

Contrary to the directions posted on the deathvalley.com website and page 1 of this thread, the best way (from Los Angeles) to PSR is to take HWY 14 to 178 East into Ridgecrest, or 395 into Ridgecrest (395 will actually take you just a bit east of Ridgecrest). Fill tank in Ridgecrest, then stay on 178 thru Trona and into Panamint Valley. About 9-10 miles past the turnoff to Ballarat (it will be on your right, but stay on the 178 a.k.a. Trona-Wildrose Rd.) you will turn left on to Panamint Valley Rd. and take that about another 10+ miles until it dead ends into the 190, make a left (going west) on the 190 and PSR is two miles up the road, campground on the right, resort and check-in on the left.

Henry/Bob/Lance, if you recall, this is how we went in last year, except that we turned right onto HWY 190. This time you'll turn left and the resort will be just a few miles up the road. Maybe you have the tracks on your GPS's from last year?

Looks like my maybe has turned into a definate no. If it wasn't for the kids obligations, work, and my truck going in for some work I'd definitly be there, looks like a great trip.

dfireballd - If you want my camp site PM me, I had it for Friday and Saturday nights at $15 a night. If they stil have sights it may be easier for you to just book a site directly.

Have fun guys.

sorry to hear that you can't go Rob. I tried to make a reservation with PSR today but we'll see how that goes. I'm still interested in your campsite if it falls through.

he was going to share a spot with Paddlenbike last I heard. He hadn't exchanged money with anyone for sharing a campsite.

I'm still waiting to see how my PSR reservation goes. If it is approved, then that means that somebody is welcome to share the site with me.

Death Valley in < 7 days!!

I can't get time off from work to attend.
One of my co-workers is leaving and I am the one who will have to take up the slack. Major bummer...

You all have a great time.
Death Valley is one of the most amazing places I have ever been.
