Found a mint 1991, what's it worth?
I found a 1991 SR5, auto transmission, 4x4, extra cab, with 67,900 original miles. Truck is really clean, one owner, interior is perfect, paint is perfect, has a little scratch here and there and a couple very small ding, also has new tires on it. What do you think it's worth? I would like to be in it as cheap as possible in case I want to sell and make a little on it. I've offered $5900 and the owner is thinking about it. It was his dad's truck and he passed away last year and the son says it's just setting in the garage so he would like to sell it. It's not for sale, the son is a client of mine and I spotted it in the garage when I was at his house one day and asked if it was for sale. I'm thinking I need to be in it no more than $6500 but maybe I'm wrong. Just curious what you guys think. Here's a few pics but it was in a packed garage and I couldn't really get any decent pics. Truck has been in east Tennessee since it was bought new and is rust free. Also, timing belt has not been changed.
Tell me if I'm wrong but if this thing was detailed real nice, I can see it bringing $10,000 plus on ebay? I honestly can't see me selling it but you never know. I'm pretty sure I would try to hold on to this truck for a very long time.

That's the way I look at it. I think it's a win win, just don't want to pay more than it's worth and it's hard to come up with a value on something that age with those miles. The last one I had close to it was an 1989 extra cab a long time ago and it was wrecked. I've always missed that truck. My last one was a 2002 double cab and it was a great truck but I like the looks of the older ones better. I know I'm going to have to put a timing belt on it since it's a 22 year old truck but that's not going to break the bank.

You don't name your profession, but most have a code of conduct that says "thou shalt not screw your clients in any business deal." If you think it's worth $10,000 with a $75 detailing, you shouldn't offer less than $9,925.
I wouldn't pay $10k for it even if you threw in a manicure. But people do unbelievable things.
Figure out the fair price, buy the truck, and keep it. It's a nice looking truck, and you won't be sorry.

I'm just trying to figure out a fair price for both of us. I'm willing to go to $6500, I think that's a fair price. As far as the ebay comment, I've been looking and some of them with low miles are bringing big money. I'm not buying it to flip but a person never knows when you may need something different.

I know that making a buck on top of the other guy is an American tradition, but skilled, competent men don't have to.

Hey guys, sorry to have gotten off on the wrong foot. It may sound like I'm just trying to buy low and make a quick buck and that's not the case. Trust me, I've made this guy a ton of money over the years and I do not have a fiduciary duty to him when it comes to buying a personal car from him. If there was a KBB or NADA price opinion on this truck, I wouldn't even asked. I went back to 1994 on KBB and plugged in miles and options and gave it the best condition rating I could and it was $5900. I guess over years I feel like I gotten the short end of the stick when I went to sell a car or truck. That being said, I'm guessing no one here has ever tried to pay someone more than what a vehicle was actually worth. I would go as far to say we all want the best deal possible. Thanks for the ethics course.

I appreciate it. I'm hoping to get it cheaper than that but I agree, it's probably worth that. If I get it, it will not be my DD, hoping to keep the miles down on it and keep it in the garage. It's a good thing I have a trailer because I would hate to use it to haul mulch and such. It's a shame to have a truck and feel like that but I want to keep it as nice as I can. By the time I have grand kids, maybe one of them will want it.

X2.
I see them for sale every so often around me. They usually have crazy high price tags 7500-10,000. Maybe people get that for them. Not sure.
I like that body style the best , but at that kind of money, I would be looking at newer 3.4L territory.
