advice on buying new truck
#2
That is a pricey truck... Better come with gold bumpers or something... If the frame, body, interior and motor are all in Awesome condition... i would pay 4k tops.
Those trucks that year go for 3-3500 in good condition here all day long.
Only vehicles i have found for over 4k are HIGHLY modified and worth every penny.

Standard cab or extended? SR5 or not? Those seem to be a pretty big factor in cost around here.
If it's an extended cab SR5, there's zero rust, and the truck is pretty much immaculate, I'd say $4500 is about right.

A lot depends on your location. Around here, a truck like that, with extended cab and good options, in really really good condition will go for that much. Mileage is high...but it's hard to find one that old with less.

Guess it makes a difference that I live in a place where if there is rust on a car people won't buy it. OR offer you 500-1000 bucks TOPS if it runs n drives just to use it for parts most of the time... And there are sooo many of these little trucks around in pretty decent condition...
Maybe southern Cali is probably not the best place to compare to.. lol...sorry

Yeah, southern cali is a whole different deal. Even my truck is a dime a dozen down there...but pretty rare here. Up here, Toyotas & Subarus just cost a lot of money. Way more than blue book.
That truck looks nice...but I think $4500 is steep. I don't know what they go for around there for comparison, though.
Is that a dealership? That would explain the high cost...

It looks nice in the pic but without seeing it for myself I have a hard time saying it's worth $4500. Just pick it apart and use everything you find to talk them down on price.
When I bought my '90 (sig) back in '04 with 146k miles, the local Toyota dealership wanted $9000 for it. It was immaculate but high book was $6500 so I said $6000 take it or leave it. They declined so I gave them my number and said call me in a few weeks when it's still sitting here...low and behold I got a call from the sales manager a few days later...$6500 and it was mine.
My point is don't pay more than what it's worth to you and most of all, be patient. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

i'd say $3500 max. people think highly of these trucks around here and its hard to find one that clean as most of them are ate up with rust or have been used as a hunting truck and been beat to death

I'd look around some more and see if you can find a 4 cylinder. The v6's are a PITA to work on and have been known to have some issues. 4500 is definitely too much for that truck. I'd maybe give 3000 for it but since it's a v6 I personally would steer clear of it.

the v6 in it the 3.0 or 3.4? 3.0 has a terrible time with blowing head gaskets. not a whole lot of aftermarket parts to upgrade them with. compared to the 22re or the 3.4. but the truck is in pretty good condition. I'd pay between $3400 and $4000. $4000 if they include a warranty of some sort on the engine and trans

I've owned two V6 toyotas from the 90's. I agree with a couple above, the price is pretty steep for a standard cab. Not to mention, those V6 get terrible gas mileage as compared to the 4cyl (and lot less reliable). I'm from Oregon and Toyotas always sell over blue book because they're very desirable, but 4.5 is steep (maybe for an extended cab). I'd pay 3.5-4k tops...190k is a lot of miles on a those V6's. Good luck!
