Old new guy (new old guy?) in NW AR

I've been trolling Yotatech for about 3 or 4 years and just moved from SoCal to Northwest Arkansas (Fayetteville / Bentonville area). I've seen more 1st Gen 4Runners on the road here than in Los Angeles.

Within a 1/2 mile radius of my house there's 3 not including mine that are driven daily and seem to not have any rust.

Anyways, that got me to missin' my '86 (sold) and '89 (also sold) so I'm picking up a complete basket case orphan of an '87 SR-5.

I work 3rd shift, so when I'm not completing the never-ending "honey do" list, I usually spend my days in the garage wrenching on one of the fleet. Who needs sleep?

If anyone wants to come over, swill some cheap beer, BBQ and talk cars in the Fayetteville area, let me know!

If you're bored and want to watch me go all bull-in-a-china-shop in the engine bay, that's fine too. Nobody ever said I was coordinated.

Truck needs:
Front calipers / pads / rotors
Rear brake adjustment
All of the soft brake lines replaced
Master Cylinder (if brake work doesn't fix the double-pump brake action going on)
Radiator
Various hoses
Someone that's not meth'd out to reattach vac lines properly (not just cap off the lines with a drywall screw when you can't figure out where they go)
OIL LEAKS EVERYWHERE
Misfire under load
Tune up
Alignment

Oh but the A/C works! woo hoo!

I'm pretty sure its down on compression significantly, so before I touch the engine work I'm doing a compression test. If high and even (doubt it) then I'm going to throw a bunch of gaskets at it once I get the cause of the leaks (excessive crank pressure) sorted.

I have about 50 parts I WTB, and a few to trade / barter / sell but I can't post in the classifieds yet. If any of you have any parts, or know of any salvage yards in the area that have stuff, feel free to PM me.

Thanks all!

Ryan

I am not to far down the road from you, just across the line in Misssouri. Glad to see I am not the only one that works on basket cases. All of mine started as basket cases and if you do the work yourself, it can be done reasonably cheap. I only see a few in my area.

What base are you on in your Avatar? Played in the desert a few times myself.

Thanks all. The avatar pic was actually taken at McGregor Range in New Mexico before my last deployment. The profile picture was taken at Taji just before we shut the doors and handed the keys to the GOI. Had to get a shot of Razorback Road before they took the sign down.

Welcome, I'm also new to the forum, I live in Gentry, so about 45 mins. Might have to meet up some time, if I get a chance, I have a few things I need to work on my rig as well, need to replace my front shocks, with my ranchos that I haven't had time to replace yet, and both my CV axles, got them as well, just haven't had the time, nor the desire right now with this heat. When it cools down, thats when i'm looking to complete a couple projects,

one being replace the motor in my 240sx with a turbo'd one, and try and figure out why the hell my runner overheats when i use the AC during the day, but if I use it during the night, it doesn't overheat....I know its hot, but damn!

lol

Im trying also to get a meet, together so we can do some wheeling, I am also sorta new to the area and looking for some trails, I've heard around devils den, but I haven't been there myself

Welcome!
