A Trac/E locker hack (FJ Cruiser)
So who is going to try this?
http://www.ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43236

Stock you can not engage both the E locker and A Trac at the same time, the E locker will turn off the A Trac.
The new Special Edition all black FJ Cruiser however has both working together.
Not totally sure how they did this, but some suspect a software upgrade.
If so, that would be cool, and perhaps our on board computer could be flashed?
All future FJs I hear too later one will have these two traction devices working in harmony.
If ours can not be flashed, I am game later one to try this hack.
Looks simple enough, you only have to cut and tap a few wires.

no problem having the two system working. Once the rear is locked the ecu does not see any slippage therefore the system will only be able to continue detecting the slippage in the front and control the front.
of course you'll be locked in 4lo and not in 4hi.

Is the a-trac on the FJ the same as VSC on the 06 tacos?

John, the A Trac and E locker in the FJ only work in 4 low.
However if one does the gray wire mod, then the E locker will at least work in 4 high and 2 high.
From all that I have read on various forums, this hack is worth doing.
It is almost like having a locker in the front when the rear is locked up and the A Trac is on to handle the front.
Now a newflash from my dealer who just answered an email I put into them last week to see if the computers can be flahed or not.
They do however have a Toyota factory rep coming to their dealership tomorrow, and will pass along my questions to him to see if a flash might be available later.

Hello Corey,
Duane forwarded your email to me. As far as the modification goes, it would
not void the whole warranty for your vehicle.
It would void your warranty on
those particular parts however.
Toyota does not offer a flash upgrade for
this modification so you would need to seek that elsewhere.
Let me know if
you have any further questions.

Cool little Flash vid there, then go to this
http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/minis...ME_FJ_BULLETIN
Choose #1 from the upper menu, then traction tools.
Choose Active Traction Control (A Trac) and watch the vid.

Yes, the FJs have the VSC too, but not in 4WD I believe.
I am still learning about this thing.
You can spend a long time reviewing all those vids on the above site.
Yeah, the Tacoma does not quite have all the stuff the FJ does.
That is why Toyota is touting the FJ as the most capable off road rig they build right now.

I do not see why it would matter if it was auto or M6.
As far as engaging the locker in 4High or in 2High, that is the gray wire mod that needs to be done.
They have done it on Tacomas, but it might be a little different with the FJ.
I am sure it has been done by now, or someone will figure it out.
That is one mod though that I will not do, I see no reason to engage the locker in 4High or 2High.
When I am off road I am normally going pretty slow, and if in a situation that calls for the locker at all, I would be crawling in 4Low.

you know the more i think about it , there really isnt a reason to engage the locker in 4 hi , im glad you brought that to my attention and made me think about it.
but i will do some more research about the alexwire mod for the atrac and locker on mt6 , i think i read in the ttora link that someone did do it to a mt and it worked , but before i go hacking away , im want to make sure its all good.

My dealer got back to me again and said they will be asking a Toyota rep soon about this, and see if there is a way to reprogram the computer instead of cutting the wire.
Although cutting the wire and doing the Alex mod would take less than 5 minutes to complete.

Is there a way to disable the 5mph limit? I am rarely going that slow when I kick it in.
