removing the lower dash hints and tricks

well i decided to take today to wire in my fog light in my fab fours bumper.

taking the swithc panel ( lower dash) was not quite as simple as i had thought it would be.

so heres so ideas from what i learned.

first off be very aware of your cruise control lever, as mine has to be replaced now , i slipped and bumped my shoulder against it while under the dash. so a trip to toyota is in the works. cant wait to see how much thats going to cost me.
by the way these instructions are for the manual trannsimission. i suspect the auto are fairly close to the same though.

ok, first off start by removing the shift knobs, the under the e brake handle theres a small cover , remove it also.
ok, now gently pull back and up on the front half of the center console, its the surrond of the shifters , and is seperate from the rest of the center console.
inside the back part of the center console theres a rubber t looking divider, pull it out and reveal the 2 10 mm bolts , remove them . and theres 2 more 10 mm bolts about the center of the console , remove them.

now comes the tricky fun part . pull the center console back and remove it , i found it easiest to slide the seats al lthe way forward, because when you try to remove the console it will hit the ebrake , and then the arm rests. after youve brought it back and clearthe shifters rotote it 90 degrees, to get by the arm rests.

now , theres 2 more 10 mm bolts to remove on the lower half of the lower center dash.
on either side of the center dash , theres pices to remove also, these have the funky round insode round clips to remove. im not sure the proper way to remove them , but i tried prying up on the center round , and couldnt not get it to come up, i did find that if you gently push the center round inward , a little bit it allows the outer round to become loose, dont push it in too far , or it will break. after removing those round clips pull the side panels out ward towards the back of the vehicle.

now you can gently pull the swithc panel out ward and remove it , being careful because theres plugs and such connected behind it, i found there ot be lots of room and didnt have to remove any of the plugged in stuff for what i was doing.

im sorry i did not take any pictures. but im going to have to get back i nthere to install my cb , and redo the switch for my foglights and ill take some pics then.

Sounds good.
I bet the cruise control is not cheap.
Check with the vendors on the forum also to see if you can get a better price than your dealer.

I will be adding switches down there in the future.

yea, the only problem is i dont want to have to tear apart the steering wheel and what ever else there is to replace it , so the dealer gets this job.
