T100 Rear Ended - Insurance Wants to Total

So my truck got smacked pretty good the other day.

I'm okay, truck is driveable but it destroyed the bumper, supports, brackets and smushed the left panel into the tail gate a little.

This is not a perfect truck, its my beater I don't even have collision on it but the driver who hit me was at fault.

I paid $2700 for it.

Their value - $3550

Repair est - $2300 with a $700 Toyota bumper.

Salvage value - $1300

Net to me - $2252.57 to keep the truck as is and deal with it myself. Or I take the $3550 and give it back.

What would you do? I think I can fix it for around a grand with a F150 bumper and use a come along to pull the panel out a little to allow the tailgate to open. This truck has dents all over and doesn't need to be pretty, just functional and safe. Also I just registered and smogged it so I'm good for two years on this thing.

Before (bumper was a little crooked) prior

New bumper and some pulling with a winch should easily fix that.

F150 bumper should work, Id buy a junkyard one.

Take the money and run. Like you said, grab a cheapo bumper, find a tree and pull it yourself lol.

Btw, did they total the Saturn? Lol

Does anyone have any links to write ups on the F150 bumper install?

Yes the Saturn was DOA it was spewing fluids, airbags deployed etc...

The insurance is predicting slight frame damage on mine, I don't know it drives straight and I'm not going to get much better of a truck for $3500 so there we go.

Thanks everyone!

Went to the junk yard found a T100 but the bumper was rusted out. Took the support brackets. Removed mine, hammered the dr side panel to allow the tailgate to open and we're good to go.

I took a look at a F150 the bumper mounts much differently but I think the trick is drilling new holes to allow the toyota bracket to adapt to the bumper.

Here are some pics, I can't find any write ups so I'm just guessing on this. The yellow is what the factory bracket looks like on the T100

I've never heard of using an f150 bumper on a t100. If it were me I would take this opportunity to make a heavy duty bumper.

I don't use this truck for anything besides driving to Mexico, surfing and runs to home depot. So I can't really justify anything heavy duty.

I just want a factory looking bumper. So I'll see what can be done and report back.

Cheers,

Sorry, never updated.

Got about $5k from insurance, they totaled the truck. Picked up a used bumper for $200 and had to get brakes and lights inspected. Once that was done I registered the truck and was good to go!
