New T100 4x4 owner needs advice
Howdy from AZ. I was a contractor with an 07 Tundra 2x4 TRD (which replaced my 03 4x4 TRD) until the housing market took a dump. Now that I am a broker sitting in an office, I want a toy that I don't mind scratching up a bit, instead of a $40K work truck. I just bought my first T100 (96 SR5 4x4 (3.4 EFI)) and I am looking for some advice on upgrades. 4wheelin' is old hat since I grew up in MT, but times (& parts) have changed since my 88 Chevy with 33's (I realize now what a Chevy tow package really means!!!). What are my options? I have $6500 into this clean and dry 184,000 mile truck and am willing to spend another $10K in the next year to build a truck that can climb the biggest hill on a "fishing trip" but can also handle pulling my 73 Airstream (weighing in at about 5500) up to Flagstaff (45 minutes, 4000 ft higher 6-7% grades) at least 70 mph. Obviously the first thing I need is more power, braking, suspension. Should I look into a 4.7L V8 swap, or can I achieve the desired effect with a turbo? How about brakes? I will install a trailer brake and some add-a-leafs. Any advice is most appreciated, as I will do the work myself (after I scrape the dust off of my old mechanics tools.)
I am a loyal Toyota man after my 4th (and last Chevy) now owning a 96 T100, 84 Yoda 2x4, 07 Yaris, and 05 Sienna (for the wifey), and Dad has an 07 Sequoia that I made him trade in his Tahoe for, (and he loves it!
)
Thanks!!

I don't think a 3.4 was meant to pull a 5500 lb trailer up grades that high, a supercharger would give you the most power. It is easy to do if you can find one, a turbo would involve a lot of custom work whereas the supercharger wouldn't. Gearing would have to be changed most likely, especially if you get bigger tires.

It will when I'm done!!
The T100 wot be pulling the trailer bu twice a year. Mostly pulling a 7x14 flat with 3 quads on it, but still up quite a few hills. The Airstream is for taking the wifey camping, I was an Eagle Scout. As long as I can get the Airstream 200 miles or less a couple of times a year, I'll be happy. My old Tundra pulled like a champ, only slower with each ton over the capacity. I still couldn't brake it after 110K miles!! As for the supercharger, where to get one, and gearing with 33's and a 3" lift??

It's break not brake, and it's not the lift that makes you need new tires it's the lift that makes you buy the tires and then you need to regear. I don't know because I have the Hilux. Do you know your stock gearing? Oh and I don't believe TRD makes them anymore, they are hard to come by.

I'm thinking that for some reason the 96 3.4L wasn't designed for the supercharger. You might look into that. I'm sure that the 98's are good, but if you are changing motors you might as well do a V8. I think a few writeups have been done on the 4.7L and for sure on a 350.

That is the T-100 that I looked at in Cottonwood!, how cool to see it here on the forum, I found one here in Prescott AZ that I'm very happy with. Just got done with the 1.5 inch ball joint spacers, sway a way torsion bars, locking hubs, front Rancho's, I inch lift blocks for the rear end, Hella lights for the front , engine belts, new battery, windshield, rear bumper, and window tint, and stereo. I will post a pic real soon on here.
