Bad shifter?

OK I just got this 97 T100 with the 5 speed.Nicest driving POS I have ever been duped into.
Runs great.Drives great,even with the bald Hankook 285s.Even better with the new street tires.Has a few little problems but nothing I can't handle.Brakes,rear seals,fan switch,loose idler arm.....basics.

So the problem I need info on is the shifting part.Well first gear.It falls out unless I hold it in place. Then it bumps and grinds, and sometimes just violently BANGS it out.

And yes I changed the little cup and nylon doodad on the shifter plate.Seems worse as I the day goes on.

Marlin has a HD shift fork, but since it's aluminum,it would break instead of bend,no?
Do I need to pull the tranny and change syncros?

Any help would be great

Thanks for answering my first question on here.

sounds like something inside the trans like syncros or bad shift forks.

Now I read something about the clutch petal mounting cracks and this may have something to do with it...??

And isn't it possible for the fork to at least deform before breaking, causing this?

Thanks

Sounds like an internal problem to me. Bad syncros for sure though.

So vital22re,who's the toyota guru up here in the NW that you would have do it?
Or is it something I could do w/o too many extra specialty tools?

Did you check the fluid level and what type of gear oil that's in it?

The syncro would cause it to grind...shouldn't make it pop out though. It the fork or forks are bad/bent/not right these would cause what your noticing.

As far as taking it apart...I've never had one open. It's scary in there!

The fact that it does it more as it gets warmer leads me to believe the fork.
But y'all never heard of the clutch petal bracket having anything to do with this?

Yeah I'm skeered about it too. That's what professionals are for

The clutch bracket cracking will cause hard shifting it won't cause it to come out of first gear. 1st might be on it's way out as well...

Might as well get a rebuild kit fro Marlin and do the whole thing.
I'll change oil and see how much debris is in there too.

For got to come back.

As it turned out,the bolt that holds the fork on the shaft was rubbing the case.Otherwise it would have come out and rattled though the gears. The fork was also a little worn.
Since I don't have a press,I had the local transmission shop do the work. And since most of the cost was to be labor taking it out,I had them just rebuild the whole thing

With a new clutch it all came to about $2.37 short of $2k

Now to the rear axle problems...
