87 4runner. Strange things are happening when I turn on the lights or use my signals. Turn lights on --- Left turn sig comes on but does not flash. When lights are on and I use my right turn signal ---all dash lights flash with it...even the clock. Sounds like a bad ground wire, but where do i begin to search?

It sound like you have a bad combination switch, that would be my guess. I don`t know if there is a way to test it or not.

 

combination switch? What/where is that? BTW. now it is acting up when I hit the brake. very interesting as it seems to do a different thing at different times. It may be my imagination, but temperature seems to have something to do with it. I live in Colorado...seems worse when it's very cold. Thanks for the help.

 

oh...and the signal lights even when the lights are not on now. Strange.

 

I have the exact same problem with my 2003 Tacoma. Left blinker light stays illuminated when I turn on the headlights; halfway or all the way. When I activate the left-hand blinker while the lights are off, the radio and clock dims in and out per the tick of the usual blinker timer.
What was the solution?

 

Any chance you have a trailer light converter box installed on the truck?

 

I am thinking bad ground most likely in the rear turn signal socket and using the marker light as a ground
