I could not find anything to help myself by searching but I just had this strange problem with my toy. I was going to work today and while I have no issues getting it into gear, when you try to accelerate the RPM's will rise and the truck would slowly get to a top speed of about 40 mph. I stopped at a stop sign and then the RPM's would just raise but no movement from the truck. I am trying to figure out if this would be a clutch or a transmission issue? any advice would be helpful, you could also smell something burning, but strangely to me it smelled more electrical than anything.

should I even try to replace the slave/master cylinder or just go straight for the clutch?

There is no common failure mode of the clutch master, or slave cylinders that account for severe clutch slippage.

As an adjunct to clutch replacement, you may well replace the hydraulic cylinders if they are well used, or show any leakage.

Have you got oil leakage that might be attributable to a rear main seal leak or tranny input seal leak??

Clutches hate oil.
