starting problem
My truck (3VZE engine, auto trans) won t start. I changed the strater contacts last night, charged the battery overnight but nothing happens.
When i put the key on i can hear the "click" coming from the starter but the engine is not starting at all.
Do i have to change the starter?

Here is how I clean my Starter Relay contacts. That helps.

Cleaning the Starter Relay.
I followed RAD4Runners write up on the starter relay as I have had it to not hit on a first turn of the ignition. I cleaned the contacts like he said, only I used 600 grit sandpaper. It does hit the on the first try and is a more solid, quicker response. Thanks RAD4Runner.
Getting cover off, I used wire cutters to bend the tabs up on the cover. The rubber seal really makes it tough to get off. Luckily the wires are soldered on real well, I used a screw driver to work around the edges of the seal to help free the cover.

We got rain and I had this spare. Thought while I was at it I would clean it. It had rust in it. It cleaned up well and still works. I will take some electric contact cleaner to it and keep it as a spare.

Your solenoid is binding such that altho it actuates it does not travel far enough to completely close the contact, or
Like the 22Re starting circuit there is too much resistance that you lose power going to the solenoid, so there is not enough power to fully actuate the solenoid and make good contact.
To validate above, try this Special Service Tool
. Does it consistently start?Mind posting schematic of your cranking circuit so we can check?

You must have really long arms. The only way I could come close to reaching the starter from the top would be to crawl head first into the right side of the engine compartment.
Plussitive I like that I can see the looks on customers faces now

I see. Gear coming out means starter solenoid is actuating. If not spinning, andyou know you have good contacts in the solenoid, then, yes most likely bad starter winding or brushes.
