Unhappy No power to starter 22r

I got a 1985 pickup 22r. Accidently shorted starter. Starter still works (took it to autozone to get it tested) all fuses on enginebay by the battery are ok. All fuses on fuse pannel by the gas and brake pedal all have power with ignition on. But cant crank starter. Any ideas what it could be. Or does anyone have a diagram? Been looking all day but cant find one for the 85 22r.

Please help, thank you.

Easy stuff first, make sure your battery cable wires are good. Check for corrosion on all the connections as well. Also, make sure your solenoid wire is plugged into the starter, without it, it wont start.

All lights on dash work battery is new. Car was working right before i shorted the starter. I actually saw a spark go off by the starter. the bigger plug to starter was touchin ground wen i cranked it n it sparked. Now nothin happens wen i crank. I tried using a different relay on the engine bay fusebox but no crank.

does anyone have the starter circuit?

Even though starter was tested, sounds like a bad starter?

Oh, even though tested ok, check YOUR connections to the starter. You could still have a short from the positive cable to the starter, if in doubt, replace the cable, they are cheap.

Im assuming one of the 2 wires going to the starter must have power wen the key is turned all the way. I tested each wire separately with a test light. I had my brother turn the key. But none of the wires hadd power. Do you know if thers like a main relay hidden some where?

Even though it checked ok at autozone you shouldn't rule that out..yet. I had a time getting my Honda to turn over not long after I rebuilt the engine. Starter turned great on the bench but not in the car.

The small wire comes from the ignition switch and should have 12 volts when you hit the key. The bigger wire would be from the battery.

Did you check the start fuse under the dash? Is there constant 12 volts at the starter?

Not sure which fuse is the start fuse, but the fuses under the dash on the left side that are covered by a white cap, all those have power with ignition on.. No, thers no power at all at the smaller wire that clips to the starter, not even when i hit the key. I havent tried a new starter cause im not getting power to those wires...dont wana be buying stuff i dont need.then again, i could just return it if i dont need it lol.

Make sure the start fuse is still good, then if it isn't it's time to trace that wire...

No actual starter fuse, power comes through AM1 and the the ignition switch and down to the starter solenoid on the '85. Typically no relay in there:

Ok, i didnt get to work on the truck today. But i get what to look for now. There are 2 wires going to the starter the small one that clips on and the bigger one that has the nut. The small wire get power wen u hit the key all the way. What about the bigger wire? Is that a ground? Or is it supposed to have power too?

The big wire/cable is/should be hot all the time, essentially comes straight from the battery "+" terminal.

On my 87, there's one just above and forward, IIRC, of the fuse block. There's a group of 4 wires that join into a ring terminal, crimped on in 2 groups of 2 wires each, bolted onto the metal of the body. That area is prone to leaks from the windshield seals, and can get corrosion built up under the ring terminal.
The wires are also prone to working loose from the crimps that hold them. Just with age. Something to check.

There's also a ground point under the passenger's kick panel, right near the ECU.

Does that help at all?
