I see what you are saying, the highbeam indicator is actually running through the lowbeam filaments in highbeam mode. The relay coil will have a higher resistance, and then the highbeam indicator will not or hardly show.
Thanks for the headsup, I now noticed the diagram on your website. I just can't believe how Toyota could run the total current through their dinky switch in the cab.
VW also does this, but I opened up a mark IV headlight switch and they have very heavy contacts with strong springs. That I can live with.
The diagram makes total sense, I was just wondering where to get the male & female plugs for the headlights to make the whole thing plug & play.
No offense to your items Roger, but I also like to put stuff like that together and I have the majority of the parts laying around.

 

Yep, VW has some of the same issues, I upgraded my '82 VW with a similar headlight harness and got similar results:

On my A1, the big problem is that the headlight switch is no longer available from VW, so if it burns out, you have to hope you can find a better switch at a junkyard. The relays take about 98% of the current load off of the switch, so it should prolong it's lifetime.

For the connectors, you might be able to find some at a good auto parts store, or just splice into the existing wiring.

 

+1 for Roger's harness. I saw a 2.5 volt increase at the headlights. Brought my 80-100's alive.

I also noticed that the DRL's do burn out all aftermarket bulbs within a year or so!!
