It is always the tiny little pieces that put a halt to getting something done and back together faster then a glacier .
Today I had a starter that needed solenoid contacts.
After checking all the easy things first .
Even pulled the plugs to see if the engine had filled with acorns or soy beans .
Turned real easy by hand .
Those I found no problem but of course while taking it apart one of the insulators that goes through the case just sort of crumbled .

I am not sure If you can still get them for a 87 22R starter or if I need to get creative .
I wonder if the newer starters have the same size holes??
*****Well for what it is worth I found a Dorman kit for less then $20.00 that looks to have what I need.

Yes, I see a number of kits on Ebay that include new insulators with the contacts.
I was lucky the other day when I rebuilt one, that everything held up.
All I had on hand was the new contacts and new plunger.

Seeing how the starter is out .
It might be a good time to eliminate the ignition switch blunder that Toyota Engineers made.
Then again they might not have figured the trucks would last so long.
Looking at the print I see it is quite easy run from the battery positive direct to pin one of the relay pin 4 to ground.
I found a 12VDC control voltage relay rated for 100 amp load sitting on the shelf covered in dust waterproof as well
That should work just fine.

I need a person to take pictures.
Be nice if she was mechanically inclined as well and welding would be awesome !!
I just never think of it despite my best intentions while doing things. Before and after no big deal .
I am just focused on what I am doing .
This is in all aspects of my life

Getting parts from Toyota has never been a problem for me. My dad has a dodge cummins that is only a 95 and he can't find a lot of parts for it new. But I can find anything I want from the Toyota dealership for my 88 pickup. You just might have to pay an arm and a leg from them.

Now the rest of the story
I tripped and fell landed on both knees so it has been interesting getting around. I was not up to crawling around replacing the starter .
Now that the starter is all reassembled I have managed to forget just where I set the thing.
I guess one of the downsides of having a lawn shed for a shop
This getting old is rough!!!
