Lo-Beam Headlights not working consistently

A couple days ago I noticed the lo-beams wouldn't go on once I turned the switch to activate them. I tried flipping it a couple more times and then it eventually worked. I turned them off and on again a couple more times just to test it and they worked fine.

Last night I tried putting on the lo's and they would not go on. Even after trying for 10 minutes to switch them on. After about 20 minutes of driving I tried again and then they worked just fine the rest of the night.

This morning I went out to the truck, tried the lo's and nothing.

The hi-beams work just fine, everytime.

Any suggestions on where to look first for this problem?
I have the upgraded H4 wiring harness if that makes a difference.

sounds like the switch is going out or a bad relay

I bought an aftermarket wiring harness for my 3rd gen and had the same issue almost immediately. I smelled a burning smell and the lows would not come on. You will always have the high's available.

I just unplugged the harness b/c I didn't want to mess w/ the relay. Did your new relay help? Did the wiring harness help add more light output?

yeah, the new harness allows for 90/130 h4 bulbs, they're nice.

i went to a couple autoparts stores, couldn't find the relay i need. so i swapped the working hi-beam one in for the lo-beam one. funny thing is, after a good whack now the broken one, which in the hi-beam spot now, works alright. but if it does fail again, i can just use the lightforces for some extra light till i replace it.

Until you can get the relay you need, it's pretty easy to bypass the harness by just unplugging the new harness and plugging back into the stock system. At least it was for me...

yeah, but what i've got going is working for me now. plus when the hi's go out, it'll remind me even more to get the new relay. otherwise i'll just be be content and never get around to it haha.

i thought i got one of these relays at pepboys before, but no luck this time. i'll have to look around online

you're talking about a standard 30 amp relay? ya they should have them. find their big set of drawers, they'll have switches, transistors, capacitors, everything you can imagine that is small. there will be a drawer with the relays in there.

try a different radio shack or just ask
