90 Runner will not turn over

Here's the deal - the 90 4Runner 3.0L auto (that I just picked up) won't turn over by using the key (neutral or park). If the key is in the run position and I jump the black/white wire under the hood by the battery it will turn over and start. What do you all think the issue could be?

Thanks for any help!

Larry

Thanks 4Crawler.

Figured it out without too much fuss.. I did a bit more searching and once the weather was nice, so I fixed it.

I was staring at the manual, looking on the net, then back and forth between the 2. I decided that my symptoms sounded more like the Neutral Safety Switch . I removed it, cleaned all oil and crap off of it. This is when I noticed the rather large crack in the back. Took it apart and all the contacts were corroded, so i sanded/cleaned the grease, re-greased and reassembled. Then I sealed the crack with a layer of JB Weld to keep the moisture out. Reinstalled and turned the key and it started.

Now onto the next issue - the rear window.....
