haha actually thats kinda how i have my exhaust right now. I just put a some "spacers" inbetween the muffler and pipe. It's ghetto but hey it works...sounds decent, better flow, and i gained about an extra 1mpg.

I already bought a MagnaFlow cat and decided on a 40 series muffler w/Downey headers BUT now i'm thinking about doing a 3.4 swap in the near future so i've been holding off my original exhaust plans...we'll see.

Thanks for all the replies!!

I had a custom dual exhaust installed on my V-6 '89 Runner, split after the cat. It sounded wicked, cost about $220.00 installed.

Now I have a '85 Runner with a V-8, dual exhaust. It sounds just like the Corvette it came out of.

don't get a flowmaster 50 if you want loud. I was told by two muffler shops that they're not much more than stock. I have the Flowmaster Super 40 (there are different 40s) The Super is suppose to be the "lowest/deepest" they say the Original 40 is the loudest but I love the sound of mine. I don't think you can get really loud with this V6 unless you run straight pipes or a 6" glasspack

Heres Flowmasters Line-up. I would recommend the Super 40. Not ricey at ALL... very throaty when above 2000rpm, very mellow/low under 2000rpm. The Hushpower II looks interesting. You should try it and let us know.

Oh, forget all the rest... Check out this Flowmaster 10 Series
Note: These mufflers provide minimal sound reduction and are intended primarly for situations where a muffler rule is in effect with no specific decibel requirements.

Wouldn't a catalytic converter catch any sparks from the engine?

I got a Raptor muffler from Checker for $20. It sounds cool, but still like a banger. If you want loud, just run open headers. Sounds like an angry diesel!
