Used vehicles from Japan...

Looking for parts for my Runner and found this...

Might be cool to get a right-hand drive 4 Runner, or Taco.

We have so many RHD Hilux Surfs up here in Canada, it's not even funny. I literally see more Surf's than regular 4Runners.

I was thinking it'd be cool to have one, then thought about things like drive-thrus and atms being on the wrong side. Might suck after a while if it were a daily driver.

That's just to get one here though. Don't they have to go through another complete inspection and everything once they arrive to be allowed on the streets?

You can't legally get them titled in the US but you can get a car Visa for one but it's on a 1 year limited basis in some cases. These cars aren't US DOT certified and can't legally be driven in the US and getting it insured might be a hassle. This is why you don't see older EVOs and Skylines all over the place.

There's some work to passing inspections getting them into Canada, but it can be worth it.

I've looked at doing it, and in the end I decided that I would rather buy one that has already cleared, like through http://www.mustang.bc.ca/

More expensive? Sure, but risk free, and you can walk around the car before you buy it.

The problem in the US vehicles after a certain year must have airbags and pass crash testing and most small importing companies aren't willing to crash several vechiles at their cost to certify them. Motorex did import a few Skylines and crash tested them but in the end it wasn't cost effective and isn't importing them anymore even tho' they completed all the mandatory testing.
