actually one more question. are the bell housings interchangable? or is the actuall tranny not built for 3.0 or bigger power? thx again

Thanks for the explanation James. So It sounds like if I want to take a Auto out of a Turbo 4 Runner and put in a W56, I will have to take out the transfer case as well because it is a 23 spline and the W56 is a 21 spline so they cannot work together? Or is the auto a whole different spline??? Cause I thought I could reuse the case. Bummer.

Im pretty darn sure the bell housings are not interchangable. Not much, if anything will be for the 4cly/v6 transmissions.

The 4cyl transmission is plenty strong enough for the v6. Hell, it will last for awhile in a v8 swapped truck. The r150 is just stronger.. Old toyota = overbuilt!

By "directly at the bottom of the bellhousing" do you mean like the attached picture in post#17? The holes on the bottom sides not bottom middle right.. because thats supposedly a 4cyl W series tranny. But i creeped under my 89 3.0 v6 5speed and it too has those two bolt holes on the bellhousing..off to the sides on the bottom
