Tranny Identification
A while back I picked up a manual transmission/xfer case from a friend. He said it came out of an early 90's Yota with a V6.
Were there different manual trannys used throughout the years with a V6? Are there identification numbers anywhere on them? Pictures online I can stare/compare with?
Also, what's a great price to offer this at?

Only one V6 trans which is the R150 but 2 versions of them. Pre Tacoma 95 and older and Tacoma 95 and up. The input shaft is longer and so it the bellhousing on the Tacoma R150's but other than that they are the same. Of course you have the Turbo 22R trans which has a R151 and gear driven case.
$250 is fair if it works. The easy way to tell if you got an R or a W series trans is look at the bellhousing, if their is 2 holes directly at the bottom of the bellhousing were it bolts to the trans it is a W if none then it is an R.

Nope, you got it wrong. R and W are two different transmissions. The R150 came behind all V6 trucks, the W came behind all 4 cylinder trucks. Now you remember Toyota did make a turbocharged 22R in the mid 80's, right? Well that combo came with a R151 trans which is an R series trans behind a 4 cylinder. That is unique only to those trucks. Take a picture of the bellhousing and I will tell you what trans you have.
Transfer cases are different. All 4cylinder 4x4's came with a gear driven case UNLESS it came with auto hubs then it was chain driven. This started in the 90-95 trucks I believe. ALL V6's came with chain driven cases. This only refers to the pre-Tacoma trucks. Their is 6 or 7 different Toyota t-cases within the 84-95 years. Remember the Turbo 22R? Well that was a V6 trans with a gear driven case behind a turbocharged 22R. That is the ONLY R series trans that came with a gear driven case. The housing of the V6 R150 transmission is NOT the same as the R151 turbo. The housing on the V6 will only allow you to bolt up a chain driven case. If you want to put a gear driven 4 cylinder case on it, Marlin sells you the adapter. Now if you had a turbo R151, you already got the gear driven case and that transmission housing will only let you bolt up a gear driven case. Confused yet?

Yes, a little confused.
I'll snap a pic and post it when I get home from work, if we still have power.

Wait! It gets more confusing for you. All gear driven cases are 21 spline input except the one that was behind the R151 which is a 23 spline input. All chain driven V6 cases are 23 spline input. The 4 cylinder chain driven case like I mentioned above is a 26 spline input.

well, the tranny/xfer case is together, and supposedly came out of an early 90's Yota V6, but I cannot verify.
I have a guy that wants it and don't want to mislead him in any way.

i have a 90 4x4 with the 3.slow and the auto. he claims that tranny in the pic came out of a 4runner 3.0 4x4, but it looks to me like it might be from the w series which were for the 22re, i think. thants why i need the second opinion.
