I dont think I wanna run the Heavy stuff, probably just light which is supposed to be 75w-140. Is anyone running the heavy stuff without problems? I am just worried about low temps.

 

I recently started to run the heavy and haven't had any problems with the winter temps here in northern Ohio. It is still rated as 75 cold viscosity - the change is in the hot viscosity - instead of 90, it is 250, but with lower friction.

Bringing back this thread to ask whether Redline Heavy Shockproof is a good oil for my Aussie Locked rear? I want to quiet it down and keep it smooth. The locker is going in this afternoon.

 

It's the heaviest, stickiest stuff you can put in there, I'm sure it would help quiet it down, but I would talk to Aussie first and see if they have had anyone report issues with using it!

... and I definitely would put dino oil in there for the breakin period.

Has anyone noticed a drop in fuel economy since Heavy Shockproof? My Aussie Locker is so quite already that I'd be fine using regular 80W90 for sound, but I'd like the protection of Shockproof.

Has anyone tried the Lightweight Shockproof?

 

I've noticed no difference in economy with the heavy shock proof oil compared to 80W90. Even the heavy stuff is the same viscosity as a 75W90 oil except for the additives that give it the shock cushioning equivalent to a 250W oil.

A buddy of mine runs the lighter weight shock proof and has had no problems with it.

 

I put Heavy Shockproof oil in my Aussie Locked diff last week. I was surprised to find that is made more noise than the 80W90 oil that was in there for the break in period. I think I will be switching over to 80W140 gear oil. Damn, I thought that I'd be done with gear oil. Oh well.
