Simple oil change questions

I was at the dealership yesterday getting some oil filters for 4 different cars

85 4runner 22re
90 4runner 22re
95 4runner 3vze
00 sienna V6

they ended up all being the same filter. can anybody confirm this? i know both v6 have the same filter, but i thought the 22res and the v6's had a different filter

TIA

Jason

try autozone.com or a carparts store website they let you pick your year make and model and then they have all of the information they have at the store

According to WIX filtration, they're all the same except for the '85 22RE. Often times when different oil filters are similar in size and filtering capabilities, the manufacturer will consolidate them into one part number. It's cheaper for them because they can manufacture less part numbers. This practice is most common with value oriented filter companies such as Allied Signal (Fram) and Champ.
My catalog shows the applications as WIX part number 51348, except the 85, which is WIX part number 51068.

don't know about the 51068, i know the 51348 is the specified filter for the 22R-E. on my 20R and 22R engines, i've always liked to use a 51515 filter, which has about twice the capacity of the smaller one(it's a small block ford app, as well as toyota diesel). i used one on my 22R-E, but it's a bit of a tight fit in there.

the 1068 is a larger filter than the 1348 (NAPA #'s, made by Wix) I prefer to use the larger filters. Same with the V8 in my cruiser. I use the larger filter with the antidrain valve (wasn't standard on my 69 engine block, but is a direct replacement)

The 51515 and 51068 are interchangable? That's cool. More oil is always better. Here are specs for all the following filters. Sure enough, the essential specs are the same for all of them: the micron rating, the flow rating, the filter media. They all have the same threads, they all have anti-drainback valves (silicone) and the 068 and 515 have the same gasket dimensions. Neat.

I double checked the latest cataloging and the 068 is, in fact, the correct filter for the 85 model according to WIX.

The box the filter comes in should tell you what engines they're applicable to. I was surprised to see that my 5vzfe V6 and the 22RE 4cyl took the same filter too.

I don't know of any filter brand that prints the application on the box. The only sure way to know is to consult an up-to-date catalog. Check out www.wixconnect.com. You can register there (it's free) and use their cataloging, interchange, and spec data.
