Ok so I picked up 3 cans and did the whole PCV-smoke deal last night. It didn't smoke after 5 min, but it did an hour later after dinner. *whew!*

Poured the rest of the can in the crankcase (have an oil change coming up anyways) and another can in the tank. I might do another PCV run just to be sure. Sucks that I had just changed the plugs a few months ago Bamachem, why couldn't you post this sooner? j/k

I don't have any pics, and other folks have asked as well, but the PCV valve should be on top of the head. Look for _anything_ that sticks out of the head and has a tube attached to it that you can trace to the manifold or throttle body.

An alternative place to look is on the brake diaphragm. This is the large round part that's behind the master cylinder. You should be able to find a hose there that traces back to the manifold. You can also pour SeaFoam into that, but BE CAREFUL! There's a LOT of vaccum in that line and you want to POUR IT IN SLOWLY SLOWLY SLOWLY!!!! Do NOT insert the tube into the can and let it suck it out.

In both cases, you want to disconnect the hose from the part (PCV or brake diaphragm), and (slowly) pour the liquid into the hose.

From post #8:

I dumped another 1/2 can in the gas tank last night to increase the dosage, plus did another intake shot today. I really should stop romping on the gas "testing it" if I want see any mileage improvement

Just got back from my post-Sea Foam test drive. DAMN!! It definitely restored some power that I had been missing, especially when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I did just like Andrew and put in 1/3 of the bottle into the PCV vacuum hose, let it sit, fired it up, and then did another 1/3. I got some smoke, but nothing like ya'll described. I guess it's because I've never run anything but super unleaded in my truck. Anyway, I put about 1-1/3 cans into the gas tank and headed to the interstate and like I said, DAMN!! I'm a believer. Thanks Andrew.

Amazing!!!!!!!! I read this thread and went out and tried this sea foam and it worked great. I mean great. My engine was running rough at idle and it is smooth now. I was concerned about the gunk going into my catalytic converter so I took it off and inspected it. It is super clean. WOW! I then tried some in my father-in-laws ford truck which was running rough and now that is smooth too. I greatly appreciate this thread and I am a firm believer in the sea foam. I also put the automatic transmission additive in and cannot see any difference. I also tried their bug juice removal and that product is no different than Fantastic in fact it strips off all your wax.

The directions on the can says "1/3 of the can". It sounds like people here have gone anywhere from 1/4 to a full can.

Personally, I think multiple applications of 1/3 can each are better than one application of a full can. It seems to me that the product does a lot of it's initial work by being able to sit int he motor for a while. The can says 5 minutes, I think a couple of hours is more like it.

I am just over 100K miles ( ) and up til now have only done a few BG44K treatments every now and then, as far as injector cleaners go.

After my oh-so-large sample set of 5 days and two fill-ups, I can say that I am pleased. The first fillup was a couple days after the Seafoam treatment all-around (intake, crankcase, fuel), and right before heading out to the coast. 2nd fillup was on the way back.

Mileage from before the first fillup isn't much to speak of since that was under my "normal" driving conditions On the way to the coast, however, I really babied it to see what I could get. For example, I used to be able to get at least 70 miles before the first mark on the gas gauge on long road trips, but that has been slowly and steadily declining. Running at around 65-70MPH @ 2-2.5K RPMs, I got ~75 miles if not better. This number is not yet adjusted for my now larger tires. Adjusted it would probably be ~80 miles as the sparrow flies.

The 2nd fillup shows I ran about 18.5MPG, 19.6 adjusted for larger tires (I'm using ~6%) This includes going through some smaller towns where you have to go slow, and a traffic jam on the way home before the fillup. So, it could have easily been 20+MPG w/ highway-only driving.

Granted, this is with my sample set of ONE fillup's worth of highway miles, but there definitely is an improvement.

To answer your question, I would probably do at least the intake and the fuel treatments before you leave, but that's just me .

Crankcase treatment, depends on where you are with your oil changes. If it were my truck, I would put the stuff in beforehand so that the engine gets a good scrubbing inside over the course of the trip, which was part of the reason I did mine last week before the weekend trip. But, you have a larger distance to travel than I did for the weekend, and I'm not sure how leaving that stuff in for so long would affect your engine. The directions do state to run this stuff in the oil "shortly before an oil change", which probably did not mean traveling ~1000 miles. Given that, I may just wait until you get there to start the oil treatment.

BTW take this w/ a grain of salt; I just started using this stuff

If I were you I'd do a couple of intake plenum treatments and put a can or two in the tank to get the injectors. I'd save a can to do the crankcase about 200-300 miles before the next oil change.

Good Luck in SC and be safe...

Andy

I agree with Andy and Ken, with that highway trip in front of you, do the intake treatment now, drop a can in the tank and you should get some great mileage on the road.

I used the stuff about a week ago, 1/3 bottle through the PCV valve, just let the vacuum suck it in. Didn't notice any white smoke at any point, but a definite improvement in throttle response the next day. As far as putting it in the oil, it might be a waste for those of you running Amsoil, as well as some of the other synth. oils. I know Amsoil has a great mix of detergents to prevent build up of gunk, so you shouldn't have much to get rid of in the first place.

Personally, I would "guess" (disclaimer: I'm not liable for damage if I'm wrong) that you change the oil, put it in, then change it again at "normal intervals" since they do say "Use SEA FOAM Every 2,000 to 5,000 Miles".
If it's anything like the AMSOIL oil additive/cleaner, the idea is that you pour it in right before your oil change (i.e. do not drive with it in there), run it for 5 minutes, then drain it all and put new oil in.

Personally, I would NEVER drive the vehicle with anything besides pure oil in the crankcase. Especially with a cleaning product in there; you've just knocked a bunch of crap loose inside the case, and the last thing you need to do is circulate that into some part operating under load. Think about it.

Do I pour Seafoamon the PCV Hole or use the PCV Hose to Suck it in???

Okay, I've finally got a can of seafoam. Again, where do I pour the 1/3 of the can? Do I pour it in the hole where the PCV is plugged in or the hose where the PCV is routed to the hole??????? Please Help!!!!

Well, the results will be in soon. I filled my tank up full, and poured two cans of the Seafoam in, which was double what it's supposed to be. Then, I poured 1 can into my oil! Then I used the last can 1/3 at a time into the pcv tube into the intake. Mine only blew smoke for less than 5 minutes each time after leaving it in there with the engine off for 5 minutes. This last time I'm leaving it in there for 15-20 minutes before I restart it to see if it smokes longer.Stay tuned for my results on a 118K 3.4L engine.

You'll only be blowing smoke for 2-3 minutes. The smoke is coming from the engine passing all the gunk that got stripped out of the intake. Once that's been passed, the smoke will clear.

You get about 10 seconds of a huge white cloud, 30 seconds of white smoke, then another minute or so of trails.
