on a dark and foggy night, in the middle of PA, a man with a can of seafoam was out to bust out the gunk in his engine... and as fog as his cover, he poured the seafoam in, and the smoke did flow... oh did it flow...

so i seafoamed tonight... and thank goodness for the fog... cause it smoked like hell... i did the routine twice (1/3 can into the PVC line). then i also added a full can into a full tank of gas. So we will see how it helps. I have noticed a small drop in fuel milage... but im determined to get it back. hope everyone enjoyed the little story above. the fog did make it nice though.

I ran 1/3 can through twice about a month ago. It smoked a bit, but not as much as I thought it would. Good stuff. It runs smoother and quiter now. I can hear my intake at about 4000 rpm, which I didn't notice before.

After my second dose of seafoam, my 4Runner dieseled a bit when I shut it off the first time. Kinda freeked me out, but alls well now.

I haven't checked my plugs recently, but I've been planning on changine them this weekend anyways.

3. Quickly shut off engine
4. Sit for 30 minutes
5. Start engine and blow out white smoke
6. Repeat steps 1-5, but waiting only 5 minutes this time
7. Dump 2 cans into gas tank (for 1/4 tank or less, 1-1.5 cans is enough)
8. Dump remaining 1/3 can into crank case via oil filler cap
9. Drive to gas station (~10 miles) with heavy throttle & high RPM's to clean injectors
10. Fill up tank and drive home (normal driving)
12. Change oil and filter

Should one use less amount of seafoam if they have a 4 cylinder rather than a 6 bamachem?

Hey all!
Got really excited about this stuff and decided to try it. My '86 4rnr/22re has been hesitating. I thought it might be due to the previous thermostat I had not reaching operating temp fully. Of course, I had no idea until it started sticking and then replaced with a good one from NAPA. The new temp gauge went up 1/4 higher, reaching the 1/2 way mark, where my '92 rnr always sits. Anyway, I figured there was some build up and wanted to run the SF. However, everytime I pull the PCV hose the motor stalls, even when I plug it a little. I even tried leaning on the throttle nearby at the same time, but then I have no hand free to pour the SF. I will have to get some help for the procedure, I suppose. But, if there's anyone with more experience with the 22re that could give me some tips, I'd be so grateful! I'm getting REAL nervous about continually stalling the motor....four times. Once I heard a pop in the combustion chamber, but everything's still running just fine. Just still hesitating. So, is there is maybe a better hose (like the one at the front of the VC) that would be easier to use?
Thanks! YT=

ok this is a lil off the subject... but HOLY COW $1.86 is the standard price for gas? damn, california sucks. im paying $3.25+ for 87octane. gosh i cant even remember the days when gas was under $2.00!

Hey joshik, that was posted two years. I'll bet he's paying more than that now!

Okay, re-re-re and reread the thread and found some helpful tips answering my own question. I'll take a deep breath and give it another go. Thanks anyway, all!

How did it go KF_Chris?

well, lots of smoke. I think there's more power but it's hard to say. truck still runs pretty bad. smoked for about 5 minutes when I let it sit for 30 min. I'll get another can and try it out this weekend. I put 2 cans in just over 1/4 tank yesterday after the initial treatment. I'll put something up when I get #'s for MPG. some of the sounds that were concerning me went away or got a lot softer....so that's a little plus.

to keep things uniform, Im going to post in here.

I was thinking about putting seafoam in the crank. Then I wondered, If the Seafoam does work, and does get the crap out of the crank, wont it just drop to the oil pan? If its in the oil pan, does it not have the potential of clogging the oil sender line?

What about sensors and stuff, does seafoam affect any of that, and I have a 22re do I put it into the intake or the valve cover side of the pcv hose

Well, you want to induce the Seafoam into the intake, so the intake side. Plus, the vaccum comes from the intake side, so hooking it up to the valve cover side wont suck up the Seafoam.

What does it mean if the engine wont turn off for a like 10 seconds after doing the seafoam?

It's called "run on" or "dieseling":
http://www.answers.com/topic/dieseli...al-engineering

It's okay... it's happening because of the abundance of Seafoam in the cylinder and intake which has a lower flash point than gasoline.

It's a good thing I saved my old plugs because after reading all this and having changed plugs a couple days earlier, I decided to do the Seafoam. So yesterday I removed the new plugs and swapped in the old and did the Seafoam into my PCV hose. It died out while I was doing it, I was going really slow, to slow. Here is a tip: I used my thumb to cover the hole to PCV hose, uncovered it slightly and let the vaccuum suck it it. I also kept my hand (while holding thumb on hose) on the throttle line in case it wanted to die out.

I had smoked the neighborhood last night and I'm currently waiting another hour to smoke it up again.

Before: Cold start, engine would idle than immediately die.

Today: Cold start, started up with no trouble.

I'm happy
