I agree seafoam for the price is a darn good deal. I also tried their Deep Creep. Works better for hard-to0reach areas.

You can also use FP60 and it does a little better. It does a little better since it does not evaporate as fast.

aye dude. This thread's pretty long, and I think there are two others so it's hard to clog through it all.

"One Of These Days" there will be a FAQ where we can point people and not have to re-re-re-repeat the info.

Glad to hear you made it through the first time! There are a couple of folks around that have people saying they've really PO'd the neighor...HOOD (as in a LOT of people) with doing this.

"oops".

yeah... when i pulled my MAF there was smoke coming out of the hole it plugs into so.... whatever that means

good for me i live in a college town and so no one seems to think anything of a truck spewing thick smoke for 10 minutes, or atleast they dont say anything, just cleaned the MAF and am gonna reinstall it in the morning before i gotta go to class so... hopefully that will be the end of my seafoam trial, if my CEL goes out then i will be happy with the procedure

im not sure on that motor, easiest way would be to go to toyota and ask to buy the PVC hose, and look at the little diagram of parts they have, it should be a little rubber hose attached right after your throttle body that connects to your block via a 90* white plug. just be sure your putting it in the right whole, lots of stuff can go wrong when you do something like this if you arent sure where or what you are doing

I'm gonna try to do a photo write up on the seafoam treatment if I ever get around to it. If I do I'll be sure to get it posted.

i'm not saying seafoam is a bad thing, but its just a normal injector cleaner people. everyone gets all excited watching the smoke thinking the magical fluid is removing all that gunk in the engine.....there are a million things you can pour into the engine and make it smoke. drop some diesel fuel in there and watch it smoke....doesn't mean its doing a damn bit of good! I prefer an O2 sensor safe spray cleaner into the TB, it won't foul plugs. The diluted seafoam into the gas tank is the only way i'd use it for the injectors.

This stuff really worked

1990 4x4 Pickup, 3.0

I live in Canada, Quebec, and couldn't find this stuff anywhere, but found it on e-bay (3 bottles). Anyway, I've had a hesitation and stumbling problem for a long time, did the regular tune up stuff: Plugs, wires, rotor, dist cap, air filter... Cleaned the TB, and IAC, and finally changed the oxygen sensor. Although there was some improvement it still ran a little sluggish. I also added lucas fuel conditioner for about 10 fill-ups and it still was sluggish. Anyway, after reading this thread, I decided I would try the sea foam... picked up 3 bottles for 25.00 USD and plus 10.00 US for shipping (yeah, I know it's kind of pricey). Regardless it WAS WORTH IT!

I used the brake booster hose and slowly put in half a pint, let it sit for 15 minutes started it up, and it smoked for about 5 minutes (whitish/grey smoke) -- took it out for a drive and it seemed to be running better. I then put the other half of the pint through the booster and let it sit again for 15 minutes, took it for a drive, and it started getting even better. SO I then decided to take another pint and put the whole pint in on a half tank of gas. I've been driving it for about 60 KM and the truck has never run so good.

All this to say, this stuff works! THANK YOU to everyone on this board for letting me in on this stuff -- you guys truly rock!

is it a good idea to rev the engine after restarting the engine after adding seafoam through the PCV vaccum hose? I figure that would do a better job clearing the carbon and gunk out. Just added almost a full can today. first time just let it idle after restart. The second time I revved it a bit. What do you guys think?

Also, does it help to drive the truck, putting the engine under load, after adding the seafoam throught the vaccum hose,or is it just as effective to let it sit and rev a bit in neutral?

I dunno that I'd go do a drag race, but I tend to start the engine, let it warm a bit (2-3 minutes) then go for a drive. My immediate neighbors tend to appreciate me doing that since it minimizes the amount of smoke they have to ingest. Of course, the rest of the 'hood isn't too happy...

Hey guys, I'm thinking about doing this treatment, kinda scared, but it sounds like it works good. If I pour it into the crankcase, do I need to change my oil after using it or is it ok to drive with? Do you guys use it right before you're do for an oil change?

i would do it a day or two before you do the oil change, and i wouldnt put any more then like 50 or 60 miles on the truck during that time. so yea i would change the oil after you put the seafoam in, just not like 2 seconds after

no but when i did it i fed it thru the brake booster and into the gas tank...then the week after i changed the oil...for me it was totally coincidental, oil didnt look any different, just as it shouldnt.

I just put some in my crank case yesterday, and drove the truck for about 50 KM. I then did an oil change and watched the black goo come out. This stuff really works. Engine seems quieter -- BTW: I e-mailed sea foam and they told me where I could find it in Ottawa, Ontario -- so no more pricey e-bay shopping for the stuff. I picked it up for 8.99 CDN.

Okay, I've started the Seafoam treatment, gas tank only so far, and have looked at all the pictures, but am still curious about one thing, and jsut need some kind of confirmation.

Mine is an '86 Turbo, the fact that it is a Turbo shouldnt affect what hose I use or anything like that, correct?

Thanks

Fergie

great stuff! used it on my civic with great results, smoothed idle, better mileage, whole 9 yds.... havent read the entire 20+ pages, but thought it would be an important note to say using seafoam on cars w/ 150k+ is a bit of a gamble. i know people on the honda boards said higher mileage vehicles may leak and what-not. i JUST bought a taco w/170k and kinda debating using it... great stuff though!
