Is this rod knock?

If it is, I'm glad I kept the 4runner.

That sounds like a valve to me. Does it make the car move, or vibrate pretty bad?

Sounds like it to me..try some really heavy weight oil in it like 50w and see if it is noticeably more quiet. If so...you have pretty much found your culprit. If the sound stays the same for quite a while...like weeks later, then it could be a wrist pin going bad. They can last from 1 day to 12 months later. Its a crapshoot with a wrist pin.

My truck sounds almost just like that once it's warmed up but not quite as noticeable with the hood closed. I thought it sounded like it was coming from the fan though..

Almost sounds like a stretched timing belt slapping the cover. Get a long screwdriver and put your ear on it and put it on the timing belt cover(s) and listen. This is the same noise my 96 Rav-4 made when the timing belt was worn out.

Well, what was the noise? Mine sounds similar but has for about 80 thousand miles. I think it's getting louder and needs to be fixed. Any easy ways to determine what it is? Thanks
