PRETTY?? or PERFORMANCE??

I like a vehicle that looks good. There's no reason a vehicle can't look good and perform well.
What gets me is the guys who buy 3/4 or 1 ton trucks and lift them so high that they need a 15" drop hitch to tow a trailer. They also usually have huge wheels with just a sliver of tire wrapping them.
Why?
You have just made your $50,000+ truck into a car that gets terrible MPGs and can't tow anything, and it can't seat more than 5 and has no interior storage.
Yes, you can do whatever you want to your vehicle and that's your right. Doesn't make it a good idea.

I hate mud trucks, It's like skate boarding.
By that I mean they're both pretty useless for transporting you anywhere besides shagging around in a mud pit or skate park.
I'll never deny that it is an amazing feat to build something like that, nor will I ever claim that the skateboarder isn't talented.

Chromoly 60's with spools. 7:17's a 4.7 case and built a340. She works pretty good to be on 54's. But for entry just crept up the tire
But on another note... my tow rig is on 37" km2's imo it looks pretty good because its low. I couldn't agree more with the above post about people taking tow rigs and messing them up with 22.5's or big heavy useless tires.

There is a very good possibility that the 4runner in the first post was a mud bogger. I personally like my trucks to serve a dual purpose of mild mud bogger and trail running truck. I use my truck to dog hunt, and our woods in this part of florida have tons of mud and no rocks to speak of, so a mud truck will get you further in the woods than a rock crawler would.
Side note: When I see trucks that are lifted an insane amount I do check them to see if it was done for performance or if its 6 inches of lift blocks.
Another side note: Both my trucks are stockish, but my plans do call for more of a mud bogger than a crawler.

I read all of replys in this thread so far and all I can say is "Different Strokes for Different Folks" First of all what do some of you think performance is? If your a Rock Crawler your opinion will be different then an Off-Road Racer, a Track Racer, a Mud Bogger, a Show Truck Owner, Etc. I raced my truck off-road for four years and had a ball. My truck was built for durability and high speed off-roading. I then stopped racing and built it into a show truck with an attitude. I love when a guy with a big truck and big tires says to me "When is Your Truck going to Grow Up". A guy at Bloomsburg with a big Dodge V8 (and a attitude to match) said that to me this year and there was a large field outside the gates. The field was muddy and rough so we had a go at it ; I blew him away the first run and he broke things on the second run. Yes, I love my truck looking good but I do not like people to pass me sometimes (on or Off-Road). Oh! keep chopping those first generation trucks apart because I love that my truck is getting rarer. (no offense to anyone personally)

I would have to agree with others. Everyone has different taste. I had a 4 runner as a beater and loved it. When it died I wanted something more streetable and good looking. I have trophy's from shows and I will wheel with the best of them. It is possible to have the best of both worlds. And the mall crawlers, they can keep spending money at my shop, I dont mind. lol

Im with you 100% I look at things from a realistic point of view. I have an 83(brown truck above) that I am saving to restore/improve. It will be treated as if it were a show quality vehicle once the restoration is finished. For now its a dd, the yellow truck is a toy. Body is rusted to hell and back so why not keep playing with it. The black 80 has 698,784 miles on it and still gets driven almost every weekend. It is a rig, rock crawling/mud running whatever the case may be. My main dd is a 93 4runner with a sbc in it. I aquired it for free and put a 700r4 in it and can honestly say it is the best dd I could ask for since I have a 10 month old son getting him in and out is much easier than my cummins or my 83. It is nice to be able to actually do the speed limit as we'll. A 3.0 is by far the most horrible engine Toyota ever designed
